About Pirate Spectacle Föhr

When the pirate camp opens at the Sandwall in Wyk auf Föhr, buccaneers and captains take over the island for three days. At the Pirate Spectacle, children and parents battle their way through the game stations: pirate cannon shooting, crossing the plank, treasure hunt, pirate tattoos, face painting, and the coveted pirate diploma as a reward. With pirate songs and a full flair production, the spectacle is one of the highlights of the Föhr summer program — free admission, no registration required. A second edition in August in Utersum.

When Föhr becomes a Pirate Island

For three days a year, the Sandwall in Wyk auf Föhr — the promenade section directly on the beach and harbor — transforms into a pirate camp. With tents, a wooden deck, pirate flags, and plenty of lighting effects, Föhr Tourism creates a family event that is one of the fixed summer highlights of the island in the district of Nordfriesland.

The Game Station Concept

Instead of a classic stage program, the Pirate Spectacle focuses on interactive game stations. Anyone entering the pirate camp receives a "Pirate Booklet" to guide them through the stations. Each completed task is stamped — those who have completed all stations receive the Pirate Diploma at the end, the award for being a trained pirate:

  • Pirate Cannon — fire the powder and water cannon accurately
  • Walk the Plank — cross the swaying gangway without falling into the sea
  • Treasure Hunt — find the hidden treasure in the sand
  • Pirate Tattoos and Face Painting — a proper look is part of it
  • Pirate Songs — sing along and dance with the pirate performers

Family Format Without Registration

The concept is deliberately accessible: free admission, no registration required. Families can come and go as they please — which is particularly helpful with small children. The difficulty of the game stations is chosen so that children from about 4 years of age can participate — older siblings will enjoy the more athletic stations (walk the plank, treasure hunt).

Föhr in the District of Nordfriesland

Föhr is one of the largest North Frisian islands in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. With its flat geest, thatched-roof houses, island villages, and the central island capital Wyk, Föhr is one of the most family-friendly island destinations in Northern Germany. The Sandwall in Wyk is the central location for events — a wide promenade section directly on the beach with the characteristic wooden deck.

Second Edition in Utersum

Those who miss the spectacle in Wyk have a second chance: In the summer, a second edition takes place in the island village of Utersum — more compact, but in the same format. This way, the western island villages of Föhr also benefit from the format.

Pirate Spectacle Föhr — edition 2026

The Pirate Spectacle Wyk 2026 runs from Tuesday to Thursday, July 21–23, 2026, on the Sandwall in Wyk auf Föhr. Three days of pirate camp with game stations, face painting, and pirate diploma. Second edition in Utersum on August 10–11, 2026.

Three Days of Pirate Feeling on the Sandwall

From July 21 to 23, 2026, the pirate camp on the Sandwall in Wyk auf Föhr will open its gates. Three days of game stations, pirate tattoos, treasure hunt, and the coveted pirate diploma for all who master the full program.

Second Edition in Utersum

In August, the second edition follows in Utersum (island village on Föhr's west coast) on August 10 and 11, 2026 — more compact, but in the same format and also with free admission.
