A Revived Pilgrimage Tradition
The Egenhausen Pilgrimage to Vierzehnheiligen connects two religious sites in Franconia on a two-day pilgrimage route. The starting point is the parish church of St. John the Baptist in Egenhausen, Lower Franconia. The destination is the pilgrimage basilica of Vierzehnheiligen in Upper Franconia's Lichtenfels district, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture by Balthasar Neumann and one of Germany's most important pilgrimage sites.
Tradition and Brotherhood
The pilgrimage was revived from 2006 to 2010 as a pilgrimage of thanksgiving for the parish's 200th anniversary. The Vierzehnheiligen Brotherhood was founded in 2008 to preserve this tradition. It promotes the veneration of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and pilgrimage around Egenhausen.
