Organ Music in Balthasar Neumann's Work

The concert series Orgelkonzerte zum Freitagsläuten takes place in the Basilika Vierzehnheiligen, one of Bavaria's most significant pilgrimage sites. Built between 1743 and 1772 according to plans by Balthasar Neumann, the Rococo basilica is considered the pinnacle of Franconian Baroque and houses the famous altar of grace of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.

Every Friday at 3 PM

From May to July, the basilica's organ sounds every Friday at 3 PM for about 45 minutes. The concerts for the traditional 'Freitagsläuten' are an integral part of the cultural and spiritual life at the pilgrimage site. They invite pilgrims, music lovers, and day-trippers alike to pause in the unique acoustics of the basilica.

Vierzehnheiligen has been a destination for pilgrims seeking the intercession of the Fourteen Holy Helpers since the 15th century. A Franciscan monastery and spiritual educational institutions shape the site. The organ concerts fit into this spiritual framework, combining artistic enjoyment with contemplation – not a classical concert event, but a meditative musical moment.

Location in the Lichtenfels District

The Vierzehnheiligen Basilica is situated on a hill above the Main valley near Bad Staffelstein in the Lichtenfels district, within the Upper Franconia region of the Free State of Bavaria. Opposite, on the other side of the valley, stands Banz Monastery – the 'Gottesländle' (little God's land) on the Upper Main is one of Franconia's most impressive cultural landscapes.
