About Pijazzo

Pijazzo – Piano Jazz at the Palais is Bayreuth's premier piano jazz festival. Over four days, five concerts will fill the open-air courtyard of Palais Steingraeber, home to the traditional Steingraeber piano manufactory. The grand piano is always the focal point: international pianists and their ensembles will grace the intimate setting, accompanied by the chimes of the city church, with a program spanning jazz, classical, neoclassical, and avant-garde music. Organized by Jazzforum Bayreuth in cooperation with Steingraeber, Pijazzo is considered a fine highlight of the Franconian festival spring.

Piano Jazz in the Heart of Bayreuth

Pijazzo – Piano Jazz at the Palais is a festival for sophisticated piano jazz in the Upper Franconian festival city of Bayreuth (Bavaria). The venue is the inner courtyard of Palais Steingraeber, the home of the world-renowned Steingraeber piano manufactory. The organizer is Jazzforum Bayreuth e.V. in cooperation with Steingraeber and Studiobühne.

The Concept: Four Days, Five Concerts, The Grand Piano at the Center

The festival follows a clear idea: four days, five concerts, with the grand piano at the center of attention. All concerts take place outdoors in the Palais courtyard; a majority of the seats are covered or protected by umbrellas. A special feature is the integration of the city church's carillon into the musical experience – music and location merge to create a unique atmosphere.

Program Profile

  • International pianists and their trios/duos
  • Program spanning jazz, classical, neoclassical, flamenco, and electronic sounds
  • Intimate open-air setting with high concert quality
  • Festival pass for all concerts offering significant savings

Significance

With its combination of excellent piano jazz and a historic manufactory ambiance, Pijazzo has established itself as a refined, curated festival since its inception. 2026 will mark its sixth edition. The close connection to its location in Bayreuth – the city of the Wagner Festival and the Steingraeber piano manufactory – gives the festival a distinctive profile in the Franconian cultural calendar.
