A Summer Festival in the Heart of the Berchtesgadener Land
Anyone who wants to experience the authenticity of Upper Bavarian club life will find themselves in the right place at the Gartenfest der Jettenberger Vereine in Unterjettenberg. The small district of the municipality of Schneizlreuth, located between Bad Reichenhall and the Saalachtal valley, transforms into a convivial meeting point for locals, summer visitors, and hikers from all over the Berchtesgadener Land on a summer afternoon.
Sponsoring Clubs and Tradition
The active clubs of the village are behind the Gartenfest: the traditional Trachtenverein GTEV D'Reiteralmer Jettenberg, the Musikkapelle Jettenberg, the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Schneizlreuth-Jettenberg, the Jettenberg Ski Club, and other local communities. Together, they organize a festival that reflects the close-knit nature of village life and is known in the region for its down-to-earth, warm atmosphere.
Music, Brotzeit, and Customs
The afternoon usually begins with a hearty open-air concert by the Musikkapelle Jettenberg, which sets the tone with Bavarian folk and brass music. Guests enjoy regional specialties at long beer tables: Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick), sausages from the charcoal grill, homemade cakes, cool beer, and Almdudler. The Trachtler in their Miesbach and Berchtesgaden traditional costumes lend the festival its unmistakable Upper Bavarian flair.
Location between Saalach and Reiteralm
Unterjettenberg is nestled between the steep rock faces of the Reiteralm to the south and the Saalachtal valley to the north – one of the most beautiful backdrops a summer festival in Bavaria can offer. The festival is therefore also a welcome occasion to combine the day with a hike in the Reiteralm area or a swim in the Saalach river. Schneizlreuth belongs to the Berchtesgadener Land district in the administrative region of Upper Bavaria.
Who Should Visit?
The Gartenfest is aimed at everyone who wants to experience Bavarian customs not in a museum setting, but in everyday club life. Families will find a child-friendly environment, hikers a welcome stop, and lovers of traditional brass music will get their money's worth. Admission is free, which underscores the character of a true village festival.
