Three days of football, Highland Games, and village party in Saalekreis
Beesenstedt is a district of the municipality of Salzatal west of Halle, nestled in the gentle hills of Saalekreis in Saxony-Anhalt. With just a few hundred inhabitants, the village is usually one of the quieter places in the region on ordinary weekends — but on Pentecost, it's different. The local sports club SV TuRa 90 Beesenstedt, together with the volunteer fire department, transforms the sports field «Zum Sportplatz 13» into a three-day festival arena, and half the surrounding Saalekreis area comes to participate, cheer, and celebrate.
The program stands on three main sporting pillars, complemented by a lively evening program:
The heart of the festival is the Nuscheler Cup — a football tournament in which regional clubs participate, traditionally kicking off the Pentecost weekend's standings. Small-field games, a classic club tournament with the usual relaxed atmosphere of a village sports field.
The Highland Games bring Scottish strength sports disciplines to the Mansfelder Höhe. Log tossing, stone putting, tug-of-war — anyone who has been to Scotland knows the scene. Those who have never experienced such an event should at least stop by: it is significantly more strenuous (and entertaining) than it looks in photos.
The sporting program is complemented by a charity tournament, the proceeds of which benefit a regional social cause. Those who participate do something good — and can end the day with a clear conscience at the beer stand.
When the last final whistle of the day blows, the festival tent stage takes over. The live band Meilenstein performs a cross-section of pop, rock, and Schlager classics; on another evening, a DJ takes over and keeps the dance floor going well past midnight. The crowning finale is a fireworks display over the sports field — not a Munich Bavaria-style production, but precisely that mix of sparks and Pentecost evening air that remains in memory.
The Pfingstturnier is not an event for festival tourists from Berlin or Munich. It is a genuine village event — warm, unpretentious, with helpers from the club and fire department behind the bar and grill. Anyone who wants to get to know Saxony-Anhalt beyond the UNESCO hotspots and spends Pentecost weekend in the Saale region will find here one of the most beautiful examples of living club life in a typical Bördengemeinde of the Saalekreis.
The 2026 Pentecost edition runs from May 22 to 24, 2026 — Friday evening with opening and live music, Saturday and Sunday with the major tournaments during the day and evening program. Organized by SV TuRa 90 Beesenstedt in cooperation with the Beesenstedt Volunteer Fire Department.
