Concert series in the Gothic Templar Chapel "From Minne to Jazz"
There are few concert venues in Saxony-Anhalt that transfer their architectural effect to the sound as directly as the Templar Chapel in Mücheln. The Gothic sacred building – one of the few surviving Templar seats north of the Alps, located in a district of the town Wettin-Löbejün in the Mansfeld-Südharz district – has been the venue for Templersommer for years: a concert series that, under the motto "From Minne to Jazz", brings together musicians from the region and beyond every Sunday starting at 3:30 PM.
Templersommer has a broad programmatic scope. Akki Schulz, curator and key figure of the festival, selects concerts from various styles each year: Medieval Minne, Renaissance madrigal, Baroque chamber music, Jazz, Folk, Celtic music, Lieder of Romanticism. A concert usually lasts around 90 minutes. The series became an audience magnet in 2017 with 600 visitors and has since been considered a insider tip in the concert landscape near Halle (Saale).
The 2026 season runs from June to early September. Summer highlight: the concert "Angels Share" on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 3:30 PM – Celtic music in the historic atmosphere of the chapel. "Angels Share" is the whisky-christened name for the evaporation that escapes from whisky barrels – a fitting title for a program that wanders between Scottish tradition and melancholic folklore.
Wettin-Löbejün is located on the banks of the Saale river in the Mansfeld-Südharz district, about 25 km north of Halle. The historic Wettin Castle – ancestral seat of the House of Wettin – towers over the town; the Templar Chapel is within sight. The region is part of the Saale-Unstrut wine-growing area and one of the most scenically attractive corners of Saxony-Anhalt. Those who attend a Templersommer concert often combine the concert Sunday with a hike along the Saale.
The 2026 season of Templersommer Wettin continues with the proven concept: Sunday concerts starting at 3:30 PM in the Gothic Templar Chapel. Stylistic diversity – from medieval music to Baroque, Jazz, and Folk – shapes the program. A central concert: "Angels Share" on June 21, 2026, with Celtic music.
