Pentecost at Glowe's Kurplatz

Glowe, a state-recognized Baltic Sea resort on Rügen's north coast, traditionally opens its summer program at Pentecost – the weekend when the season on the island officially begins and the first guests move into their holiday homes. With the Pfingsttanz on the Kurplatz Glowe, the municipality sets the perfect starting signal: two evenings of dancing, music, and conviviality under the open sky or in the marquee.

The DJ and the Music

The program is musically curated by Jörg Scheffler, known in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as a presenter and DJ for Ostseewelle Hitradio MV. His repertoire ranges from German Schlager (Andrea Berg, Helene Fischer, Roland Kaiser) to Discofox and 80s pop, up to current charts and dance hits. The broad program aims to appeal to all age groups – and it succeeds every year: grandparents dance with grandchildren, beach guests with island residents on the dance floor.

Atmosphere and Significance

The marquee on the Kurplatz can hold several hundred people and offers welcome shelter from wind and rain in cooler Pentecost weather. Bratwurst stands, Glower beer on tap, wine, Aperol Spritz, and ice cream await in front of and next to the tent. Free admission makes the dance evening an accessible family event – those who wish can come for an hour or two, others stay until 1 AM. The organizer is the municipality of Ostseebad Glowe.

Tradition in Glowe's Annual Cycle

The Pfingsttanz marks the start of Glowe's event season, which culminates in Kurplatz concerts (Thursdays from July), Harbour Sounds (Tuesdays from July), Harbour Festival (July), and Promenade Magic (July/August). For many island guests moving into their holiday homes at Pentecost, the Pfingsttanz is the first shared evening of their holiday – classic and mood songs, a beer with a live DJ, stars over the Baltic Sea.
