Traditional district Pentecost fair in Neuwied-Oberbieber with a parade on Whit Monday and Father's Day
The district of Oberbieber in northern Neuwied has its own independent fair tradition, maintained separately from the large Heddesdorfer Pfingstkirmes. While the Heddesdorfer Kirmes attracts a supra-regional audience with its XXL rides, the Oberbieberer Pfingstkirmes retains its character as a village and district fair: smaller, more personal, club-based, and firmly anchored in the annual cycle of the parish.
A characteristic of Oberbieber is the election of a fair king and a fair queen, who are chosen by the festival committee and represent the event. The highlight is the grand festival parade on Whit Monday starting at 2 PM, which winds through the district and includes the fair king and queen, clubs, music bands, and floats. The parade is open to all residents and is accompanied by street spectators.
The "Vadderdaach" on Whit Tuesday — a Rhenish tradition — is particularly prominent in Oberbieber. Bacon and eggs are served on the fairground and in the festival tents, along with draft beer and local wine. Men and women from Oberbieber and neighboring towns meet to round off the fair — and for the traditional review with the festival committee about the successful fair year.
The historic fairground features classic medium-sized rides (carousel, bumper cars, children's rides), food stalls, and game booths, as well as a festival tent with a daily changing music program — from brass bands to Schlager to local rock and cover bands.
The 2026 edition continues the long-standing tradition. In the preceding weeks, the festival committee organizes the allocation of showmen, the stage program in the festival tent, and the festival parade on Whit Monday. The parish and local clubs accompany the fair with a festive church service and musical performances.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Oberbieber festival committee in spring 2026. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
