Pentecost in the Geiseltal Valley

The Pentecost festival in Wünsch – a district of the town of Mücheln on the Geiseltalsee lake – is one of those farm festivals that characterize the Pentecost days in the villages of the Saalekreis district. The organizers are the Pfingstburschen Wünsch, a traditional fraternity, and the Wünscher Landhof e.V., which provides the festival grounds on its straw bale house and associated farmstead. In 2026, the festival will run from Pentecost Friday, May 22nd, to Pentecost Monday, May 25th.

Four Days of Tradition and Dancing

Friday starts with a bang: From 8 p.m., the disco with "Musikspektrum" from Leimbach will get underway – a dance event firmly established in the region as the Pentecost kickoff. On Sunday morning at 8:15 a.m., the Pfingstburschen will parade through the village for the traditional serenading (Ständchenblasen): an old custom where brass bands play in front of houses and farms. In the afternoon, the celebration continues at the Landhof, and in the evening, the band "New Riders" will perform. On Pentecost Monday, a church service at 9 a.m. opens the day, followed by the morning pint (Frühschoppen) from 10 a.m. with the "Thüringer Waldspitzbuben" and an afternoon with coffee, cake, and a raffle.

Geiseltalsee – Saxony-Anhalt's Youngest Recreational Area

Wünsch is located in the Saalekreis district (state of Saxony-Anhalt) in the Geiseltal valley – a region that was shaped by open-cast lignite mining until the 1990s. Today, the Geiseltalsee lake, the largest artificially created lake in Germany, is located in the same spot, serving as an area for swimming, sailing, and cycling. The Pentecost festival in Wünsch showcases its rural counterpart: a traditional farming culture that continues the spring tradition unchanged.

Authentically Rural

Visitors to the Pfingstfest in Wünsch experience a village festival without a glossy facade: a festival tent made of wooden beams and straw bales, brass music, regional bands, goulash soup, a Pentecost service in the village church. This is precisely what makes it one of the insider tips among Pentecost festivals in Saxony-Anhalt.
