KG Wissen 1856 e.V. — Over 170 Years of Carnival Tradition
The Karnevalsgesellschaft Wissen 1856 e.V. is one of the oldest carnival associations in Rhineland-Palatinate and has shaped the social life of the Sieg-Stadt in the north of the Altenkirchen district for over 170 years. The Grand Session, alongside the carnival parade on Shrove Tuesday, is the most important date in the KG's session calendar.
kulturWERKwissen as the Session Hall
The kulturWERKwissen is the central cultural and event center of the city of Wissen. The historic industrial architecture of the former Eisenwerk Wissen provides an impressive backdrop for concerts, theater performances, readings, and also for the Grand Session of KG Wissen. The atmosphere of the listed industrial building lends a special character to the carnival session.
Motto 'Kölsche Nacht'
The motto of the 2026 session is 'Kölsche Nacht' (Cologne Night) and focuses on the close connection of Wissener Karneval with the Cologne carnival tradition. The hall decoration, musical selection, and contributions are based on classic Cologne carnival culture, without denying Wissen's own identity.
Top-Class Artist Lineup
The 2026 artist lineup combines regional stars and national carnival celebrities. Liselotte Lotterlappen will perform a satirical speech (Büttenrede), the Tanzcorps Chanterella will present its choreography, Bel Air will offer carnival songs, the impressionist Jörg Hammerschmidt will provide humorous imitations, the duo Zwei Hillije will contribute musically, and the Cologne band Lupo will bring Cologne carnival sound to the stage. The Wissener Tanzcorps of the KG will round off the program with their own performances. Session President Lisa Trapp will expertly guide through the evening.
Children's Carnival on the Following Day — 50th Anniversary
On Sunday, February 8, 2026, the Wissener Children's Carnival of KG Wissen celebrates its 50th anniversary — a remarkable milestone for a children's carnival that has been introducing the youngest members of Wissen society to carnival tradition since 1976. With a children's program, dance performances by the children's Tanzcorps, carnival royalty (Tollitäten), and catering, the Children's Carnival is an important event for young families.

Session Schedule
Evening Before — Admission
Doors of kulturWERKwissen open late afternoon or early evening. Guests are welcomed in the foyer with sparkling wine, beer, and Kölsch. Cloakroom and table assignments.
Session Start
Opening of the Grand Session by Session President Lisa Trapp. Entry of the Elferrat (council of eleven) and the Tollitäten (carnival royalty) of KG Wissen. Welcome address to guests and explanation of the session motto 'Kölsche Nacht'.
First Half of the Program
Alternating satirical speeches (Büttenreden), dance performances, and vocal contributions. Liselotte Lotterlappen with a Büttenrede, Tanzcorps Chanterella and Wissener Tanzcorps with choreographies. First performances by Duo Zwei Hillije and vocal contributions from Bel Air.
Intermission
Refreshments in the foyer with potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), currywurst, beer, and Kölsch. Socializing between guests and members.
Second Half of the Program
Highlights of the session with the impressionist Jörg Hammerschmidt and the live performance by the Cologne band Lupo. Sing-alongs to classic carnival hits, swaying rounds in the hall, climactic dance performances.
Session End
Conclusion with the carnival anthem, farewell to the Tollitäten, and transition to an informal carnival party in the foyer and hall.

Carnival costumes are welcome, especially those related to the session motto 'Kölsche Nacht'. Early booking of tickets is recommended.
