Castroper Spring Fair — Over 500 Years of Volksfest Tradition

The Castroper Spring Fair is one of the oldest folk festivals in Westphalia — with a tradition spanning over 500 years. From April 17th to 20th, 2026 (Friday to Monday), the old town of Castrop-Rauxel, including the market square and adjacent streets, will transform into a colorful fairground mile with over 70 attractions, showmen, and food stalls. Setup begins: Wednesday, April 15th, 2026.

Castrop-Rauxel in the Ruhr Area — The City Between Ruhr Centers

Castrop-Rauxel is located in the northern Ruhr area, between Dortmund and Recklinghausen, in the district of Recklinghausen. The city was formed in 1926 through the merger of several mining communities — the old town around the market square has preserved its historical character. It provides the ideal backdrop for the spring folk festival, which gathers the population of the northern Ruhr area twice a year (spring and autumn).

Getting There — Road Closures from Wednesday

Setup begins on April 13th, 2026 (road closures). Castrop-Rauxel is accessible by train (DB) from Dortmund or Recklinghausen — a short walk from Castrop-Rauxel Süd station. Reachable by public transport buses from the entire Ruhr area — various lines will be rerouted during the fair. By car: Widumer Tor parking garage is central. Downtown parking spaces will be closed for the duration of the fair.
