Traditional Schützenfest of the St. Hubertus Shooting Brotherhood 1922 in Sande
The municipality of Sande is located in the Friesland district, directly on the A29 motorway between Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven. With around 9,000 inhabitants, it is an important central town in the region. The St. Hubertus Schützenbruderschaft, founded in 1922, is one of the oldest associations in the town and is closely linked to the community's identity.
With its namesake St. Hubertus, the patron saint of hunters and marksmen, the brotherhood combines religious tradition with the customs of shooting fraternities. The members cultivate shooting as a sport, social club life, and connection to the village community. Youth development, regular shooting evenings, and community events characterize the association's year.
The annual Schützenfest on the Sande Schützenplatz is a multi-day Volksfest (popular festival) with a classic structure: a welcome on Friday evening, the King's shooting on Saturday, a parade, and the King's proclamation on Sunday. The festival tent offers space for dance evenings with a live band, social gatherings, and the traditional King's dinner.
On the festival grounds, families will find carousels, food stalls, and a dedicated children's program. Admission to the festival grounds is traditionally free – only carousel rides and refreshments are paid for. This makes the Schützenfest an important event for families on a tight budget.
In the Friesland district, Schützenfeste are among the central social events of the year. The Sande Schützenfest is part of a network of such events in the neighboring municipalities of Schortens, Zetel, Jever, and Wangerland. Friendly shooting associations from the region travel to participate, enhancing the festive atmosphere with marches, flags, and drum corps.
The 2026 edition follows the proven structure. The brotherhood combines tradition – shooting competitions, parade, King's proclamation – with a family-friendly festival ground program. Friendly associations from the region will march along, enhancing the festive character.
Those who are in Sande or the surrounding area during the Schützenfest days will also find attractive program offerings in the neighboring municipalities of Jever, Schortens, and Wilhelmshaven – a classic summer weekend in the Friesland district.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years:
