Over 100 years of the Roßbach Pentecost Society
Founded in 1920, the Pfingstgesellschaft Roßbach looks back on more than a century of unbroken tradition – the 92nd Pfingstbier was already celebrated in 2012. This makes the Roßbach festival one of the oldest and most traditional Pentecost customs events in southern Saxony-Anhalt. The association's headquarters are located at Leipziger Straße 37 in the Roßbach district of the town of Braunsbedra.
Pfingstburschen and Customs
The Pfingstbier is – like many Pentecost festivals in Central Germany – supported by a society of young men. The Roßbacher Pfingstburschen march onto the sports field in traditional clothing on the first day of the festival, open the event, and ensure over the days that the customs – beer tapping, wreath binding, dances – are not forgotten. Live bands from the region play in the evenings, including Weißenfels' «FaZit» in recent years.
Roßbach in the Geiseltal
Roßbach belongs to the town of Braunsbedra in the Saalekreis district – the Geiseltal, which after the end of open-cast lignite mining became the Geiseltalsee (one of the largest artificial lakes in Germany) through flooding. The district has retained its village character: small houses, the sports field as the social center, clubs that sustain community life. The Pfingstbier here is not an 'event', but a family reunion.
