Open-Air festival at the Limburg monastery ruins with concerts, cabaret, theatre – 2026 lineup with Gringo Mayer, Ute Lemper, Vince Ebert and more
The Limburg monastery ruins tower above Bad Dürkheim on a ridge and are one of the most important medieval monuments in the Pfalz. Founded in 1030 by Konrad II as a Benedictine monastery, Limburg was one of the most important monasteries in the Holy Roman Empire during the Middle Ages. After secularization and a fire in the 16th century, the monastery fell into ruin, its imposing Romanesque architecture fascinating to this day. As a festival backdrop, the ruins offer a unique combination of historical dignity, natural beauty, and acoustic quality.
The 2026 program combines a variety of artistic disciplines:
From July 9th to 26th, 2026, the individual concerts and performances are spread across the summer days and evenings. This extended festival structure allows each artist their own evening in the monastery ruins and offers visitors a diverse range of choices. Tickets are sold separately for each event.
What makes the Limburg Sommer unique is the combination of art, history, and nature. The open-air stage in the monastery ruins, the view over the Palatinate vineyards to the Rhine valley, the mild summer air, and the historical dignity of the ruins create an atmosphere that cannot be achieved in ordinary concert halls. Those who have experienced the Limburg atmosphere once will become repeat offenders.
