Autumn wine festival on the long October weekend
When the last grapes are harvested in the steep slopes of the Calmont and the vineyards turn golden and red in autumn, the street wine festival “Wein und Mehr” begins in Eller. It is the last major wine festival of the season in the Eller district and, at the same time, an autumn showcase for the vintners, who present their current wines and Federweißer (new wine) here.
Eller lies at the foot of the Calmont, which, with gradients of up to 65 degrees, is considered one of the steepest vineyard sites in Europe. The wines that mature in these slate terraces are characterized by mineral depth and expressive fruit. At the street wine festival, vintners present their Spätlesen (late harvest), Auslesen (select harvest), and mature Burgundy wines in a setting that underscores the event's autumnal character: warm fairy lights, small fire bowls, autumnal decorations, and a calm, contemplative pace.
The concept complements the classic wine festival with additional offerings: regional artisans present ceramics, woodwork, and textiles; small manufacturers offer honey, jams, and liqueurs from the region. Acoustic music groups provide atmospheric accompaniment at several stations, without disrupting the character of an intimate street festival.
The extended October weekend around the public holiday makes “Wein und Mehr” a popular short break destination for gourmets from the Rhineland, the Ruhr area, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Those who want to experience the Moselle Valley in its full autumnal splendor will find the perfect occasion here.
The “Wein und Mehr” street wine festival 2026 in Eller spans three days. It opens on Friday evening, with the main activities running from midday until late evening on Saturday and Sunday. The wine stalls are spread throughout the entire village center, supplemented by stalls from regional artisans and manufacturers.
At the vintners' stalls, visitors can taste the new Federweißer, fresh Rieslings of the current vintage, as well as mature Spätburgunder and Auslesen. The warm food options range from vintner's platters and tarte flambée to autumnal game dishes.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in late summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Highlights: Federweißer and new Rieslings of the current vintage, regional arts and crafts and manufacturers, autumnal game dishes and vintner's platters, atmospheric evening ambiance with fairy lights and fire bowls, walkable exploration of Eller's historic village center.
Free admission. Wine tasting glasses and tokens available at the vintners' stalls.
Getting there: Via the B49 along the Moselle; parking available at the village entrance. By train to Bullay, then continue by bus or passenger boat.
Admission: Free. Festival glasses and tasting tokens are available at the vintners' stalls.
Tip: Bring warm clothing – it can get chilly in the evenings in the Moselle loop at the beginning of October. Book accommodation early, as the extended weekend is very popular.
