Three-day district festival in the Heidelberg district of Pfaffengrund around the Gesellschaftshaus — association festival, family festival, and district identity all in one
The Pfaffengrund District Festival is still a young format: the 3rd edition will take place from September 18 to 20, 2026 at the Gesellschaftshaus Pfaffengrund. The organizer is the Heidelberg-Pfaffengrund District Association e.V., which launched the festival in 2022 — with the clear goal of giving the Heidelberg district of Pfaffengrund an annual event that fosters identity.
Pfaffengrund is located in the west of Heidelberg, between Heidelberg main station and Patrick Henry Village (the former US military site, now being gradually transformed into a new district). Pfaffengrund emerged primarily in the 1920s and 1950s as a residential area for workers in nearby industrial plants. Today, it has about 7,500 inhabitants and is a classic mixed district — cooperative housing, terraced houses, small single-family homes, and small businesses.
The Gesellschaftshaus Pfaffengrund is the community center of the district — event space, home to several associations, venue for concerts, club evenings, and family celebrations. During the district festival, it transforms into the festival center for three days, with catering inside and around the building, a stage, stalls from Pfaffengrund associations, food and drink vendors, and a children's and family program.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the district association in the summer on pfaffengrund.de. Based on experience, it includes the classic components of a Swabian-Baden district festival: catering stalls from local associations (sports club, Liederkranz, fire department, schools, kindergartens), live music on stage, dance and theater performances by Pfaffengrund groups, play stations for children, and catering with regional food and drinks.
The Heidelberg-Pfaffengrund District Association e.V. is the main organizer of the festival and district activities overall. It sees itself as the voice of the Pfaffengrund population towards the Heidelberg city administration, a networker for local associations, and an organizer of district issues — from traffic matters and educational policy to events like the district festival. The first editions from 2022 to 2024 showed that the format struck a chord — Pfaffengrund previously lacked its own regular district festival in this format.
With just under 160,000 inhabitants, Heidelberg is a university and tourist city, but beyond the well-known postcard axis of the Old Town, it has 14 very different districts. Pfaffengrund is one of those that rarely appear in tourist brochures — and that's precisely why the district festival is interesting: it shows the "other" Heidelberg, where most Heidelberg residents live, far from the castle and the university.
The 3rd edition of the Pfaffengrund District Festival takes place from Friday, September 18 to Sunday, September 20, 2026. The Gesellschaftshaus Pfaffengrund and its immediate surroundings form the festival area. The Heidelberg-Pfaffengrund District Association organizes the festival together with Pfaffengrund associations, schools, kindergartens, and local businesses.
The exact detailed program for 2026 — bands, theater groups, catering stalls, play stations, opening hours — will be published by the district association in the summer on pfaffengrund.de. Based on experience, the festival offers a proven mix of catering, live music (often by Pfaffengrund musicians and bands from the Rhine-Neckar region), and a rich family program.
Detailed 2026 program will be published in the summer on pfaffengrund.de and in Heidelberg's district media.
Free admission. Food and drinks at association stalls at typical festival prices: small snack €5–€8, main courses €10–€14, drinks €2.50–€4. Play stations for children for a small fee or free.
Take the S-Bahn S3 from Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof to the Pfaffengrund district (Pfaffengrund/Wieblingen stop), then walk 10 minutes to the Gesellschaftshaus. By car, take the B37 (Pfaffengrund exit), parking is available on residential streets.

For those who want to get to know Heidelberg beyond the castle tourist route, the Pfaffengrund District Festival offers an authentic experience — the "other" Heidelberg in a summer family setting. On the way back, a walk through neighboring Wieblingen with its baroque castle is worthwhile.
