About Petro-Surf

The Petro-Surf Festival in Rantum is one of the most distinctive festivals on the German North Sea coast: for three days, the Samoa Seepferdchen beach restaurant combines Sylt's surf and beach culture with the Outlaw Porsche scene. Air-cooled 911s, 356s, and rare racing Porsches line up on the beach, while an open surf contest takes place in the water. The event includes brand exhibitions, live DJs, street food, and sunsets on the dune. On Saturday, June 27, 2026, admission is free from 2 PM, aimed at day visitors; there will be a ticket format for Friday and Sunday.

Rantum and the Myth of Surfing

Rantum is one of the quieter spots on Sylt — Germany's largest North Sea island and part of the North Frisia district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. As early as the 1950s, lifeguards brought surfing to the Sylt coast, and the island is now considered the cradle of German wave riding. The Petro-Surf Festival celebrates exactly this tradition every year in June at the Samoa Seepferdchen beach restaurant in Rantum.

Surfers, Porsche Fans, and the Beach

The concept is unusual and precisely why it's successful: California beach atmosphere meets a curated selection of air-cooled Porsches — from outlaw conversions of early 911s to rare 356 models. While the cars provide photo opportunities on the sandy beach, an open surf contest runs in the water. Between heats, DJs provide relaxed West Coast vibes, and small exhibitions showcase surfboards, lifestyle brands, and customizing workshops.

Program Highlights

  • Surf contest in the Rantum waves
  • Porsche show of air-cooled classics right on the beach
  • Live DJs and West Coast soundtrack at the beach restaurant
  • Street food and beach bar with sundowners
  • Brand and lifestyle exhibition centered around surf and custom car culture

Unlike many festivals, Petro-Surf consciously opts for an open format on the main Saturday: on June 27, 2026, admission is free for all visitors from 2 PM. Tickets will be sold for Friday and Sunday, offering a complete package with program activities and backstage access.
