California Beach-Vibes, air-cooled Outlaw Porsches, and surfing on Rantum Beach
Rantum is one of the quieter spots on Sylt — Germany's largest North Sea island and part of the North Frisia district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. As early as the 1950s, lifeguards brought surfing to the Sylt coast, and the island is now considered the cradle of German wave riding. The Petro-Surf Festival celebrates exactly this tradition every year in June at the Samoa Seepferdchen beach restaurant in Rantum.
The concept is unusual and precisely why it's successful: California beach atmosphere meets a curated selection of air-cooled Porsches — from outlaw conversions of early 911s to rare 356 models. While the cars provide photo opportunities on the sandy beach, an open surf contest runs in the water. Between heats, DJs provide relaxed West Coast vibes, and small exhibitions showcase surfboards, lifestyle brands, and customizing workshops.
Unlike many festivals, Petro-Surf consciously opts for an open format on the main Saturday: on June 27, 2026, admission is free for all visitors from 2 PM. Tickets will be sold for Friday and Sunday, offering a complete package with program activities and backstage access.
The Petro-Surf Festival returns to Rantum from June 26 to 28, 2026. Three days of beach festival around the Samoa Seepferdchen beach restaurant: surfers compete in the open contest in the Rantum waves, while air-cooled 911s, 356s, and outlaw customs from the international Porsche scene line up on the beach. DJs provide West Coast sound, street food, and a beach bar complete the program.
Highlight for day visitors: Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 2 PM, free admission for everyone. Friday and Sunday with day tickets.
