Extended shopping night for the summer solstice in the Roland town
The Perleberger Spätschicht is the annual shopping night of the Prignitz district town of Perleberg. In the run-up to the summer solstice, the city center retailers extend their opening hours into the late evening; at the same time, the city center transforms into a small festival mile with live music, a fashion show, culinary offerings, and special promotions. In 2026, the Spätschicht will take place on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 5 PM to 10 PM.
The central venue is the Schuhmarkt – one of Perleberg's most characteristic squares, lined with half-timbered buildings and the famous Perleberger Roland (erected in 1498, one of the tallest surviving Roland statues in Germany). The Schuhmarkt hosts the stage with live music and moderation:
The name "Spätschicht" refers to Perleberg's industrial past: Until the 1990s, numerous Perleberg residents worked in shifts in local industrial companies (leather factories, mechanical engineering). The format honors this tradition: the "Spätschicht" of the shopping night is the symbolic counterpart to the former late-evening work – today it is a cozy town festival with shopping and socializing.
Perleberg (around 12,000 inhabitants) is the district town of the Prignitz district in northwestern Brandenburg – one of Germany's most sparsely populated regions. The landmark is the Perleberger Roland, a 5.75 m high statue on the Großer Markt from the late Middle Ages (1498), symbolizing market and judicial freedom and on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List. The old town with its well-preserved half-timbered buildings and the Marienkirche is considered one of the most beautiful town ensembles in northwestern Brandenburg.
Admission to the Spätschicht is free. Food, drinks, and purchases are paid for directly at the stalls and in the shops. The atmosphere in front of the historic half-timbered backdrop is intimate and cozy – a classic highlight in Perleberg's event calendar.
