About Brauhausfest Oberstreu

The Brauhausfest in Oberstreu has been the social flagship of the Musikkapelle Oberstreu e.V. (MKO) in the Streufluss municipality in the Rhön-Grabfeld district for over twenty years. Every October, the MKO transforms the festival grounds in Oberstreu into a festival mile with brewery culture, Volksfest (traditional folk festival) atmosphere, and a music program. The 2024 (October 11–14) and 2023 (October 6–9) editions followed the usual date on the second weekend of October; the 2026 edition will be published by the association in the months leading up to the festival.

The 2026 Brauhausfest Oberstreu is announced as a continuation of the annual tradition for October. Usual date: second weekend of October (2024: Oct 11–14, 2023: Oct 6–9). The organizer remains the Musikkapelle Oberstreu e.V. On October 9, 2026, the MKO is organizing the Musikatzen event in parallel with 5 hours of live music – tickets on presale on the club's website. The 2026 edition is expected to follow the established format with brewery culture, brass music, and a festival tent.

Getting There

Over twenty years of Brauhausfest in Unterfranken

The Brauhausfest Oberstreu is one of the most important club festivals in the Unterfranken Rhön. The organizer is the Musikkapelle Oberstreu e.V. (MKO) – the traditional brass band of the Streufluss municipality of Oberstreu, in the administrative community of the same name in the Rhön-Grabfeld district. For over two decades, the MKO has organized the festival annually, which has developed into a regional brand.

Brewery Culture and Festival Tent

The focus of the Brauhausfest is on brewery culture and brass music: beer and festival food from a regional brewery, a festival tent with performances by the MKO and friendly bands from Unterfranken, Hesse, and Thuringia (Oberstreu is located in the tri-border area). The mix of brewery tradition and brass music defines the character of the festival – not a classic Volksfest, but a club festival with a brewery focus.

Usual Dates in October

The last editions followed the pattern of the second weekend of October: in 2024, the festival took place from October 11 to 14 (Thursday to Sunday), and in 2023 from October 6 to 9 (Friday to Monday). This timing in mid-October – after most of the region's Volksfeste and Oktoberfest celebrations, and before the Advent markets – establishes the Brauhausfest as a late autumn highlight in Unterfranken. The exact date for the 2026 edition will be announced by the association a few months in advance on the website and Facebook.

Oberstreu – Rhön-Streufluss Municipality

Oberstreu, with around 1,200 inhabitants, is located in the far north of Bavaria in the Rhön-Grabfeld district – the transition area to the Thuringian and Hessian Rhön. The municipality belongs to the administrative community of Mellrichstadt and lies between the Streu and Werra rivers.
