Over twenty years of Brauhausfest in Unterfranken

The Brauhausfest Oberstreu is one of the most important club festivals in the Unterfranken Rhön. The organizer is the Musikkapelle Oberstreu e.V. (MKO) – the traditional brass band of the Streufluss municipality of Oberstreu, in the administrative community of the same name in the Rhön-Grabfeld district. For over two decades, the MKO has organized the festival annually, which has developed into a regional brand.

Brewery Culture and Festival Tent

The focus of the Brauhausfest is on brewery culture and brass music: beer and festival food from a regional brewery, a festival tent with performances by the MKO and friendly bands from Unterfranken, Hesse, and Thuringia (Oberstreu is located in the tri-border area). The mix of brewery tradition and brass music defines the character of the festival – not a classic Volksfest, but a club festival with a brewery focus.

Usual Dates in October

The last editions followed the pattern of the second weekend of October: in 2024, the festival took place from October 11 to 14 (Thursday to Sunday), and in 2023 from October 6 to 9 (Friday to Monday). This timing in mid-October – after most of the region's Volksfeste and Oktoberfest celebrations, and before the Advent markets – establishes the Brauhausfest as a late autumn highlight in Unterfranken. The exact date for the 2026 edition will be announced by the association a few months in advance on the website and Facebook.

Musikatzen Event on October 9, 2026

Parallel to the annual Brauhausfest, the MKO is organizing the event »Musikatzen« on Friday, October 9, 2026, with five hours of live music – tickets are already on presale on the club's website. This Musikatzen event could coincide with the Brauhausfest 2026 or serve as its prelude.

Oberstreu – Rhön-Streufluss Municipality

Oberstreu, with around 1,200 inhabitants, is located in the far north of Bavaria in the Rhön-Grabfeld district – the transition area to the Thuringian and Hessian Rhön. The municipality belongs to the administrative community of Mellrichstadt and lies between the Streu and Werra rivers. The Brauhausfest is one of the most important social events in the municipality and shapes the image of club life with its brass music tradition.
