About Lotte Lehmann Academy

The Lotte Lehmann Academy is the annual summer academy for singing in Perleberg, the birthplace of the world-famous opera singer Lotte Lehmann (1888–1976). Over four summer weeks, concerts emerge from the intensive work of young international opera singers in historic churches, castles, and open-air venues in the Prignitz – one of Brandenburg's most sparsely populated and scenically beautiful regions.

An Academy for Young Voices

The Lotte Lehmann Academy in Perleberg is an international summer school for singing and stage presence. It honors the memory of the world-renowned opera singer Lotte Lehmann, born in 1888 in the Roland town of Perleberg in the Prignitz, who later became one of the defining sopranos of the 20th century and founder of the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara.

Program in Three Stages

The summer program is divided into three consecutive sections:

  • Lotte Lehmann Week (July 17–25, 2026) — intensive vocal and stage work for singers of all levels, described as "a week that can change everything"
  • Lotte Lehmann Academy (July 27 – August 16, 2026) — a three-week summer academy for aspiring international opera singers
  • Concert Series (July 20 – August 16, 2026) — public concerts in historic churches and castles of the Prignitz

Venues in the Prignitz

The concerts take the audience throughout the Prignitz: the Romanesque-Gothic St. Jacobi Church in Perleberg, Hundisburg Castle, churches in Wittstock and Wittenberge, as well as open-air venues. A tour through the Prignitz – one of Brandenburg's most rural districts near the border with Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – is thus naturally combined with high-quality classical concerts.

Perleberg and the Roland Town

Perleberg is the district town of the Prignitz district and one of the best-preserved Hanseatic towns in Brandenburg. The Roland on the Großer Markt has stood since 1546 and is a symbol of the town. With the Lotte Lehmann Academy, Perleberg has had a classical music festival for several years, drawing national and international attention to the Prignitz.

Lotte Lehmann Academy — edition 2026

The 2026 summer academy runs from July 17 to August 16 in Perleberg and the Prignitz. The Lotte Lehmann Week (July 17–25) and the subsequent three-week academy (July 27 – August 16) are accompanied by a public concert series from July 20 to August 16.

The 2026 season of the Lotte Lehmann Academy spans one month with a staggered program. The week from July 17 to 25 is designed as intensive vocal and stage work and is open to singers of all levels. Immediately following, from July 27 to August 16, is the actual three-week summer academy for aspiring international opera singers.

During these weeks, public concerts take place at various venues in the Prignitz – in the St. Jacobi Church Perleberg, in Wittstock, at Hundisburg Castle, and at open-air venues. The season concludes with a grand concert on August 16 in Perleberg.
