Adventsmarkt Zell (Mosel)

Zell (Mosel) is a small Mosel town with a historic old town, whose main attraction lies in its relaxed atmosphere. While Cochem and Bernkastel-Kues attract thousands of tourists during Advent and their city centers become overcrowded, the Zell Adventsmarkt can be considered an atmospheric alternative for those seeking a quieter market in a genuine Mosel setting.

The market takes place on the first weekend of Advent and is concentrated on the market square and the adjoining alleys. Wooden stalls are decorated with fir green, fairy lights, and small decorations; around twenty to thirty vendors present arts and crafts, Advent decorations, regional food products, and small gifts. The Cochem and Zell vintners are often present with their own stalls, serving mulled wine in several varieties – classic red, white, cherry, blueberry, non-alcoholic – as well as selected wines to take home.

A special feature of the Zell Adventsmarkt is the fairy tale parade, which traditionally takes place on Saturday afternoon through the old town. Performers in costumes from the German fairy tale world – Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, Mother Hulda, Snow White, the Wolf, the Seven Dwarfs – form the procession, often accompanied by music bands, small floats, and storytellers. For children, it is one of the highlights of the Advent season. The Adventsmarkt closes late in the evening; those who wish to stay longer will find a warm welcome in Zell's gastronomy.
