Traditional autumn market centered around the potato β Peker in Solling dialect
The Pekermarkt Uslar is a culinary and cultural declaration of love for the potato. In the Solling dialect, the potato is called Peker β a term that reflects the region's close connection to this fruit. In the Central Uplands region of Southern Lower Saxony, the potato was a staple food for centuries, feeding countless families. The Pekermarkt honors this tradition with a joyful autumn festival.
The market always takes place on the second Sunday in September β on September 13th in the 2026 edition. This date is firmly anchored in the event calendar of the Solling town and is visited annually by thousands of visitors from Uslar, the Solling-Vogler region, and the neighboring Weser Uplands.
Two stages provide musical entertainment: regional bands, solo artists, and folk groups perform, bringing the right atmosphere to the Uslar city center. Several children's carousels and play stations ensure that even the youngest market visitors get their money's worth. The family-friendly character of the market is one of its hallmarks.
The culinary offerings consistently revolve around the potato β from classic pan-fried potatoes to potato pancakes, potato soup, French fries, and baked potatoes, as well as creative variations like sweet potato chips or potato desserts. In addition, there is a comprehensive range of other regional specialties and drinks.
What distinguishes the Pekermarkt is the strong participation of regional producers, artisans, and associations. Farmers from the Solling region present their produce, artisans showcase their skills, and local associations cater to the guests. Thus, the market becomes a reflection of the vibrant Solling.
The 2026 edition of the Pekermarkt continues a tradition that has grown over generations. On the second Sunday in September, the market is the autumn highlight in Uslar.
Families, regular visitors, and guests from the wider region alike come to the market β the family-friendly atmosphere and culinary diversity make the day a relaxed festive experience.
