Free Open-Air Culture Festival in Stadthallenpark — July 2nd to August 2nd, 2026 (10th Anniversary)
Since its premiere in 2017, Parksommer Chemnitz has developed into one of the most important summer highlights in Saxony's major city. The concept: Instead of a classic open-air with a high stage and standing room, Parksommer focuses on a 360-degree stage in the middle of Stadthallenpark — with the audience on deck chairs, picnic blankets, or simply on the lawn, all around. This is complemented by pop-up gastronomy, food trucks, and a chilled summer vibe. Multiple award-winning, Parksommer is considered a flagship of the Chemnitz event scene and particularly of the program surrounding Chemnitz 2025, European Capital of Culture.
From July 2nd to August 2nd, 2026, around 85 events will take place. The spectrum is exceptionally broad and consciously not aimed only at a young audience: Indie and singer-songwriter concerts are featured alongside classical evenings with string quartets, jazz sessions next to poetry slams, morning yoga sessions next to comedy shows. A dedicated children's program — theater performances, craft workshops, concerts for young audiences — makes Parksommer a family event.
2026 marks the festival's 10th anniversary. The previous year's edition in 2025 — integrated into the program of Chemnitz 2025, European Capital of Culture — attracted around 28,000 visitors, setting a record. The anniversary summer of 2026 will also feature a mix of regional and international artists. An official app and a detailed event calendar will accompany the festival; all events are free to attend.
Chemnitz, with around 250,000 inhabitants, is Saxony's third-largest city (independent city, district Zentrum). In 2025, it was a European Capital of Culture — along with Nova Gorica in Slovenia. Stadthallenpark, located directly in the center, next to the Stadthalle and within walking distance of the main train station, is the ideal urban refuge for a summer festival of this kind. Parksommer is popular with both locals and tourists from the Erzgebirge, Vogtland, and the West Saxony region.
From July 2nd, 2026, to August 2nd, 2026, the 10th edition of Parksommer will take place in Chemnitz's Stadthallenpark. Around 85 events spread over four weeks — on and around the characteristic 360-degree stage, with the audience on deck chairs, picnic blankets, and the summer lawn. Stadthallenpark thus becomes the open-air living room of Chemnitz's cultural scene for a month.
Admission to the entire festival is free. An official app accompanies the program, supplemented by social media updates on Facebook and Instagram (@parksommerchemnitz).
Free admission. Food and drinks on site are subject to charge (food trucks, bar, pop-up gastronomy).
