Beer festival in Chemnitz city centre
Saxony is a beer country — Radeberger, Krostitzer, Wernesgrüner, Köstritzer, Rechenberger are known far beyond Saxony. Chemnitz has its own brewing tradition (with the former Reichenbrand brewery and the currently active Privatbrauerei Eibau branch in the region) and brings together the regional beer scene in the city centre every July. The Brauereimarkt is the city's largest beer festival.
Over 40 restaurateurs and breweries from Chemnitz and the surrounding area offer around one hundred types of beer — from classic Pils and Lagers to wheat beer, Schwarzbier, and Bock, as well as craft beers from the younger generation. Over 20,000 litres of beer are served during the six days. Live music accompanies the event on the stage in Inneren Klosterstraße, ranging from folk and rock to soul and Schlager — deliberately broad to cater to every taste.
What distinguishes the Brauereimarkt from a classic Volksfest (public festival) is its curated beer selection. It's not about mass consumption, but about tasting and getting to know the beers. The stalls are spread across several squares — Inneren Klosterstraße, Rathauspassagen, Jakobikirchplatz — creating a cohesive festival area in the heart of Chemnitz city centre.
Chemnitz was the European Capital of Culture in 2025 — and the 2026 Brauereimarkt fits into the programme of a city that makes its cultural and gastronomic assets more visible. Visitors to the festival should take the opportunity for a city walk: Roter Turm, the Market Square with the Town Hall, the Karl Marx Monument, and the new cultural mile provide the backdrop.
The depth of selection is the programme: Over 40 breweries and Chemnitz restaurateurs present around one hundred types of beer — Pils, Lager, Wheat beer, Schwarzbier, Bock, Craft beer. Three central stage areas: Inneren Klosterstraße, Rathauspassagen, Jakobikirchplatz. Live music alternates between folk, rock, soul, and Schlager.
