Corpus Christi procession and parish festival with Original Reichenbacher Blasmusik
Reichenbach is a small municipality in the district of Kronach, nestled in the hilly landscape of the Frankenwald in Upper Franconia. As in many Catholic communities in Bavaria, Corpus Christi here is not just a public holiday, but a highlight in the parish's annual calendar. The parish festival combines centuries-old liturgical tradition with lived village community.
The day begins with a festive High Mass in the Reichenbach parish church. Afterwards, the Corpus Christi procession forms: the priest carries the monstrance with the Blessed Sacrament, accompanied by altar servers, banner escorts from local associations, and the congregation. At four artfully decorated altars, set up by families and associations along the procession route, the procession pauses, and the priest gives the eucharistic blessing.
The Original Reichenbacher Blasmusik e.V. plays a central role, accompanying the procession with solemn marches and sacred pieces. The band is one of the village's resonant ambassadors and can be heard at many festivals in the region. Between the altars, they play traditional church music, and at the subsequent parish festival, they entertain with Franconian folk music and brass band classics.
After the procession, the faithful gather at the parish hall or in the festival tent next to the church. There is a warm lunch with traditional Franconian dishes, accompanied by beer from regional breweries, coffee, and homemade cakes and pastries from the parish council members. Children can play in the playground while adults chat over a glass of beer.
The parish festival on Corpus Christi is an important social anchor for Reichenbach. Generations meet, visitors return to their hometown, and new residents get to know their neighbors. The proceeds usually go towards the upkeep of the church, renovations, or charitable projects of the parish. Anyone looking for an authentic experience of Catholic tradition in the Frankenwald will find it here.
As every year on Corpus Christi, Reichenbach will be the scene of one of the most traditional church celebrations in the Frankenwald on June 4, 2026. The festive service, procession, and parish festival merge into a Franconian village community celebrating its faith and conviviality here.
The Original Reichenbacher Blasmusik e.V. is responsible for the musical design — from the entrance into the church to the entertainment during lunch.
The exact times and details (sermon, participating associations, festival caterer) will be announced in the parish newsletter and on the music association's website.
Reichenbach is located in the northern Bavarian district of Kronach, about 15 km north of the district town of Kronach. Arrive by car via the B85 or B173. By public transport, take the train to Kronach, then a bus or taxi. Changes to public transport schedules are to be expected on Corpus Christi.
The service, procession, and attendance at the parish festival are freely accessible. Food and drinks are sold at moderate prices; the proceeds support the parish.
Festive clothing adapted to the weather. Bring sun protection in summer weather, as the procession takes place partly outdoors. Those who want to experience the musical accompaniment of the Original Reichenbacher Blasmusik live should be on site in good time for the High Mass.
