Spa Town with a Musical Tradition
Bad Tabarz is located on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest, in the Gotha district, at the foot of the Großer Inselsberg. Over the decades, the Kneipp spa town has earned a firm place in the calendar of Thuringian summer events — primarily through the Musiksommer, which offers a packed concert program every year from May to September.
Music Mile Instead of a Single Venue
Since 2025, the Musiksommer has been designed as a Musikmeile (music mile): no longer a single venue, but several — spread across beer gardens and hotels:
- Die Teigmacher — Café Lesehalle in Theodor-Neubauer-Park
- AKZENT Hotel «Am Burgholz»
- Aktivhotel Inselsberg (Biergarten Lauchagrundstraße)
- Winkelhof (Kurpark area)
Musical Spectrum
The program ranges from rock bands (3Rock, CarryOn) to acoustic duos (InWood, Thomas Schäfer) to folk music (Behringer Blasmusikanten, Bad Tabarzer Blasmusikanten) and DJ events. A total of about 50 concerts spread over the season — the Musiksommer is thus one of the most densely packed concert programs in a German spa town.
Free Admission, Reservations Recommended
Admission to all concerts is free. For larger events, seat reservations are recommended — they are organized in advance via the community's website or directly at the venues.

The 2026 Musiksommer follows the proven Musikmeile concept: concerts on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at various venues in the community of Bad Tabarz.

- Friday — usually first concerts from 7 PM
- Saturday — main concert day with multiple venues
- Sunday — family and "Frühschoppen" (morning pint) concerts in the afternoon

Getting There
You can reach Bad Tabarz via the A4 (exit Waltershausen), then the B88. By train: Thüringerwaldbahn / Regionalbahn Friedrichroda with a stop in Bad Tabarz.
