Oweräirer Kerb: A church consecration festival in the heart of Ober-Roden
The Oweräirer Kerb traces its roots back to the traditional church consecration festival and remains the most important neighborhood celebration in Ober-Roden, a district of Rödermark (Hesse). For four days, the so-called 'magic triangle' between the Nazariuskirche, the Dinjerhof, and the market square transforms into a festival ground filled with live music, local hospitality, and community spirit.
The festival is organized by the Kerbverein Ober-Roden e. V., which coordinates the program alongside other local associations, including the local history society. The official kick-off is traditionally a dialect evening on the stage in front of the Dinjerhof.
The four-day program includes highlights such as the raising of the festival tree, the ceremonial tapping of the beer keg in front of the church, a festive church service, the reading of the traditional 'Kerb' speeches, and a grand brunch on the final day, concluding with the symbolic 'burial' of the festival. The event also features live music, children's theater, and dance performances hosted by the participating clubs.
The Oweräirer Kerb thrives on the dedication of Ober-Roden's local associations and is an essential part of community life in the 'magic triangle' of the town center.
