Grand Wine and Heritage Festival with the Crowning of the Wine Queen on the Second Weekend of August
Ediger is one of the most beautiful half-timbered villages on the Moselle. With remnants of its town walls, the late Gothic parish church of St. Martin, picturesque alleys, and old winegrowers' courtyards, the village provides the ideal backdrop for a traditional heritage festival. The „Osterlämmchen“ takes place every year on the second weekend of August and lasts from Friday evening to Monday evening.
The festival begins on Friday with the ceremonial beer tapping and the first concert in the festival tent. Saturday is the classic festival day with live music, dance bands, and continuous catering. Sunday centers on the crowning of the new Wine Queen by her predecessor: an emotional moment in the festival tent that visibly demonstrates the village's connection to its vineyards. Afterwards, the traditional „Stohlgang“ winds through the alleys – a historical procession where the winegrowers, associations, and wine royalty parade through the town, followed by brass bands and festively decorated floats.
Monday, often perceived as a quieter festival day, attracts visitors with Moselle-typical specialties and a final concert. Throughout all four days, wines from Ediger vintners are served – primarily Riesling from the Ediger Pfaffenberg and Kondelberg sites, with white and Pinot Noir gaining increasing importance. The kitchen offers Moselle specialties: Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Krautsalat (cabbage salad), Rieslingsuppe (Riesling soup), Mosel-Reisfleisch (Moselle rice meat), Bratwurst (grilled sausage), along with coffee and cake in the afternoon.
The „Osterlämmchen“ is also special because it showcases the tradition-conscious independent spirit of the Untermosel villages – far from the major wine events, with regional bands, local dance groups, and volunteer-run stalls. Families will also find children's programs, carousels, and games.
In 2026, the „Osterlämmchen“ will again extend over the second August weekend. Monday is traditionally designed as a relaxed conclusion, with a final band performance in the festival tent and a 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint).
Those who wish to combine the festival weekend with a stay on the Moselle can undertake the Calmont-Steig trail, the Moselsteig path to Beilstein, or a boat trip to Cochem from Ediger. Overnight accommodations should be booked in advance, as holiday apartments in Ediger-Eller are in high demand during the festival weekend.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in early summer. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years:
