Largest Schoppenfest in the Main-Spessart district in the historic castle courtyard
The Homburg Wine Festival is described as "Franconia's most beautiful wine tavern" and the largest Schoppenfest in the Main-Spessart district. The venue is the historic castle courtyard of Homburg Castle in Homburg am Main, a district of the market town Triefenstein in the state of Bavaria. The historic walls above the traditional wine-growing village form a unique backdrop for the festival.
The focus is on the wines from the top vineyards Homburger Kallmuth and Homburger Edelfrau. The Homburger Kallmuth is among the most renowned wine-growing areas in Franconia. These wines are served in the atmospheric castle courtyard and garden, along with Franconian specialties from the well-stocked wine festival kitchen.
The festival celebrates the "fifth season" over two weekends at the end of July and the beginning of August. It opens with the election and appearance of the Wine Princess. Renowned bands provide live music, and the traditional Homburg Schoppen is the focal point of the convivial evenings. A spectacular fireworks display over the Kallmuth vineyard on the second Sunday of the festival provides the crowning finale.
The Homburg Wine Festival is deeply rooted in Franconian wine culture and is a highlight in the festival calendar of the Mainviereck region. It combines high-quality wines, a historic ambiance, and genuine conviviality, attracting wine lovers from all over Franconia to the courtyard of Homburg Castle.
The 2026 edition of the Homburg Wine Festival spans two weekends: from July 24 to 26 and from July 30 to August 2. In the romantic castle courtyard and garden of Homburg Castle, wines from the top vineyards Homburger Kallmuth and Homburger Edelfrau are served alongside Franconian specialties. The festival opens with the election and appearance of the Wine Princess. Renowned bands provide live music throughout both weekends.
