Whitsun weekend with open cellars and courtyards of the Ürzig vintners
Ürzig is located in one of the most impressive steep-slope vineyards of the entire Mosel region. The "Würzgarten" vineyard site has been among the best-known and highest-quality sites in the growing region for centuries. Characteristic are the red and grey slate soils with volcanic rock and the extremely steep slope, which offer the vines unique conditions. The Open Cellar Days over Whitsun are an ideal opportunity to get to know these sites and their wines directly from the vintner families.
From Friday, May 22nd, to Whit Monday, May 25th, 2026, the Ürzig vintners will open their cellars, vinotheques, and courtyards. Riesling is the focus – in dry, off-dry, as well as fruity-sweet and noble-sweet styles, which are typical for the Middle Mosel. In addition, there will be Spätburgunder, Sekt (sparkling wine), and in some cases, specialties such as Trockenbeerenauslese (dried berry selection) or Eiswein (ice wine) from older vintages.
Regional dishes are served with the wines in the courtyards: Flammkuchen (tarte flambée), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Schiefertaler ham, cheese platters, salads, and sweet specialties. Several courtyards also offer guided tastings in small groups, where vineyard sites, vintage characteristics, and style issues are explained in depth.
Ürzig is located directly on the Moselsteig hiking trail and the Mosel Cycle Path. The open cellar days can be ideally combined with a hike through the steep slopes or a bike tour along the Mosel. Particularly impressive is the viewpoint at the rock formation above the village, which offers a view of the Mosel loop and the famous vineyard sites.
The 2026 edition follows the proven concept. Participating courtyards coordinate their opening hours while maintaining their individual atmosphere and food menus.
As the Whitsun weekend coincides with numerous other Mosel courtyard festivals (Zeltinger Weinerlebnis-Tage, other events in Mosel towns), an intensive Mosel wine tour can be completed over an extended weekend.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of Middle Mosel courtyard festivals on Whitsun:
The current list of participating Ürzig vintners will be published on the website of the municipality of Ürzig.
