Historic vehicles on the market square in the Muldental valley
Brandis is a small town in the Leipzig district, east of the big city, located at the transition between the Leipzig Lowland Bay and the Mulde river valley. Once a year — usually at the end of August — the market square becomes a meeting point for historic vehicles: from East German Trabi and Wartburgs to classic Mercedes and BMW models, as well as a few vintage motorcycles from before and after the war.
The meeting follows a fixed schedule: The market fills up from 9 a.m., around 11 a.m. the convoy starts its approximately two-hour tour through the Muldental valley — the route leads via Klinga, Seelingstädt, Trebsen, Cannewitz, Neichen, Rothersdorf, and Bennewitz back to Brandis. The return is in the afternoon, followed by the presentation of the vehicles in the market square and the award ceremony around 2 p.m.
What distinguishes the Brandis meeting among the many classic car events in Saxony is its combination with the fire brigade's open day. While the classic cars are on tour, the Brandis fire departments present their current and historic emergency vehicles, demonstrate technology, and host a children's program with a water spray wall and hands-on activities. This makes the meeting a full-day event for families.
The Muldental valley is one of Saxony's underestimated landscapes — gentle hills, old mills, and historic villages characterize the corridor between the Vereinigte Mulde river and Leipzig. Brandis itself lies on the Polenztal valley, a small side arm, and is part of the Leipzig district. Visitors to the Oldtimer Meeting can combine their stay with a trip to the Püchau Castle ruins or Trebsen Castle.
As in previous years, the meeting expects around 100 historic vehicles. The Brandis Oldtimer Friends, the City Association, and the city administration are organizing the day together with the Brandis Fire Brigade, which is holding its open day on the weekend.
