About Mittelbrunner Kerwe

The Kerwe Mittelbrunn is the annual Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the Palatinate village of Mittelbrunn in the Verbandsgemeinde Landstuhl, Kaiserslautern district. The small community preserves its village identity in close proximity to the Sickingen town of Landstuhl and the Ramstein Air Base. Mittelbrunn in VG Landstuhl

Mittelbrunn is located in the Verbandsgemeinde Landstuhl in the Kaiserslautern district, in close proximity to the Sickingen town and the Ramstein Air Base. The small community maintains its own identity and is part of a region shaped by both traditional Palatinate village culture and German-American encounters.

Four-Day Palatinate Kerwe

The Mittelbrunn Kerwe is celebrated over four days, from Friday to Monday. This longer format is characteristic of the Westrich region and allows for dance evenings, Frühschoppen (morning pint), lunch, family activities, and a Kerwe parade.

Kerweborsch and Customs

As in every Palatinate village, the Kerweborsch (Kerwe lads), Kerweparrer (Kerwe pastor), and Kerwestrauß (Kerwe bouquet) characterize the festival. The humorous and satirical Kerwerede (Kerwe speech) on Sunday afternoon addresses village events, local anecdotes, and political happenings of the year.

Club Life and Catering

The local clubs – sports club, fire department, and others – provide the festival tent, bar, and catering. The menu features Palatinate classics: Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), and fries. Draft beer and Palatinate wine accompany the festival weekend. On Sunday afternoon, the women of the parish serve coffee and homemade cake.

Significance for the Community

For the residents of Mittelbrunn, the Kerwe is the social highlight of the year. Former residents return, families plan reunions, and the festival fosters community spirit among the clubs.
