A Classic Upper Franconian Wiesenfest

The Heimat- und Wiesenfest Geroldsgrün is part of the Upper Franconian summer festival tradition, which has developed its own profile in almost every community in the Frankenwald and Fichtelgebirge. The festival takes place annually at the beginning of July at the Geroldsgrün festival grounds and combines club life, school culture, and gastronomy under one festival tent.

Program between Tradition and Novelty

Traditionally, the event kicks off with a "Kaffeekränzle" (coffee gathering) with cake, accompanied by a children's program and performances by the youth fire department "Geroldsgrüner Feuerwehrler". The highlight is the grand parade on Sunday, where kindergarten children, students of the Lothar-von-Faber elementary school, clubs, traditional costume groups, brass bands, and honored guests march through the town. In the festival tent, brass music and cover bands provide the atmosphere in the evenings – in 2025, the classic rock cover band Granny’s Pearl performed there for the first time.

Beer Tapping and Festival Tent

The ceremonial beer tapping by the mayor marks the start of the festival in the tent. This is followed by evenings with brass music from the Nordhalben brass band, club evenings, and family afternoons. Sports groups like TSV Dürrenwaid also have a fixed place in the program.

Geroldsgrün in the Frankenwald

Geroldsgrün is located in the Hof district in Upper Bavaria – pardon: in Upper Franconia (Bavaria), in the middle of the Frankenwald Nature Park north of Kronach. With around 2,200 inhabitants and districts like Dürrenwaid, Hermesgrün, and Silberstein, the municipality is one of the classic Frankenwald towns. The Wiesenfest is an important event for identity – many former residents of Geroldsgrün return home for the festival.
