Bavarian-inspired folk festival in the municipality of Holle at the Mohldbergparkplatz
The original Munich Oktoberfest has spawned countless regional adaptations in recent decades. From small village Oktoberfests to large events in the state capitals, festival formats have been established that translate the Bavarian original into a compact, locally adapted form within one's own event environment. Oktobersause Holle is a good example of this tradition: it brings the Oktoberfest experience to a municipality in southern Lower Saxony, making it accessible to the residents of the Hildesheim district without the need for a trip to Bavaria.
The venue is the Mohldbergparkplatz in the municipality of Holle. A festival tent will be set up there, adopting the characteristic Wiesn style: long tables and benches, pennant chains in white and blue, classic Oktoberfest decoration with hop garlands, Lebkuchenherzen (gingerbread hearts), and Bavarian motifs.
The classics of Bavarian folk festivals are found on the tables: Maßkrüge (liter steins) of beer (usually a festival beer from a South German brewery or a Märzen specially brewed for the festival), Brezn (also known as pretzels), Weißwurst (white sausage) with sweet mustard, Schweinshaxn (pork knuckle), Hendl (roast chicken), Schweinebraten (roast pork) with Knödel (dumplings), Obatzda (cheese spread), Krautsalat (cabbage salad). Those who wish can complement the feast with Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake) or Apfelstrudel (apple strudel) for dessert.
A music band or party band ensures the typical Oktoberfest atmosphere. Classics like 'Anton aus Tirol', 'Hulapalu', 'Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit' (A toast to conviviality), or 'Sweet Caroline' – a staple of modern Oktoberfests for years – alternate with Bavarian folk music and Schlager hits. The audience is encouraged to sing along, sway, and dance on the benches.
Dirndl and Lederhosen are welcome, but not mandatory. Those who take it seriously come in Bavarian-Austrian outfits; those who simply want to spend a convivial October evening are also welcome in everyday clothing. The atmosphere is exuberant, sociable, and a little different from a classic North German folk festival.
During the day, families with children have space to eat and drink in a relaxed atmosphere; in the evening, the party atmosphere with live music dominates. This division makes Oktobersause interesting for different target groups.
As in previous years, the festival tent will be set up at the Mohldbergparkplatz. The exact program and reservation options will be announced in autumn 2026 on the municipal website and in local media.
Those organizing a table group should reserve early. Individual visitors usually find seats without a reservation, but may have to expect waiting times.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in autumn. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of similar Oktoberfests:
