About Oktoberfest Berzbuir

On Saturday, 17 and Sunday, 18 October 2026, the St. Anna Rifle Association Berzbuir 1893 e.V. will transform the village square of Berzbuir in southern Düren into a Bavarian festival meadow. In the large festival tent, original Munich Hofbräu on tap will flow, accompanied by hearty Bavarian specialities: meatloaf, sausages, pretzels, coffee and cake. Highlights of the weekend include the Dirndl and Lederhosen competition (jury judges the most beautiful traditional costume), a large tombola, and on Sunday the International Rhenish Championship in Fingerhakeln (Rhenish-Open). Family-friendly atmosphere, no frills — a real village festival with a Wiesn touch in the Düren district. Organiser: St. Anna Rifle Association Berzbuir 1893 e.V., which also hosts the Schützenfest and numerous other club festivals in the village.

Berzbuir — Düren District with its Own Village Character

With around 1,200 inhabitants, Berzbuir is one of the smallest districts of Düren, the district town in the Düren district (Cologne administrative region). Nestled between the Rur river and the foothills of the Eifel, Berzbuir has retained a distinct village character despite its incorporation into Düren in 1972 — with its own parish church of St. Anna, its own clubs, and a distinct festival calendar. The backbone of village life is the St. Anna Rifle Association Berzbuir 1893 e.V., which not only organises the Schützenfest but also Carnival, club festivals, and for years the popular Oktoberfest.

The Berzbuir Oktoberfest — Bavarian Fun in the Rhineland

While major organisers in Düren city compete with cover bands, Berzbuir focuses on down-to-earth traditions: a festival tent on the village square, Hofbräu München on tap, Bavarian pub cuisine, a dance floor, a jury for the most beautiful Dirndl and the most stylish Lederhosen, and on Sunday the highlight — the International Rhenish Championship in Fingerhakeln, a competition from the Alpine strength sports scene, held right in the heart of the Rhineland.

Dirndl and Lederhosen — The Traditional Costume Competition

Anyone wanting to impress in Berzbuir comes in traditional costume. On Saturday evening, a jury will judge the most beautiful entries in the categories Dirndl (women) and Lederhose (men). Judged not only on the costume itself but also on style, presentation, and appropriate handling of traditional accessories (apron, bodice, stockings, Charivari). Prizes range from Hofbräu vouchers to high-quality traditional costume items from regional shops.

Fingerhakeln — The Sunday Highlight

Fingerhakeln is a traditional Bavarian-Tyrolean strength sport: two competitors sit opposite each other at a table, each with their middle finger in a small leather loop (strap) between them. On command, both pull — whoever pulls the opponent over the edge of the table wins. What sounds simple is a highly intensive strength contest with centuries-old rules. The Rhenish-Open in Berzbuir is one of the few official tournaments in the Rhineland and attracts competitors from Bavaria, Austria, the Black Forest, and even international guests. The competitions are held in several weight classes, with preliminary, intermediate, and final rounds.

Culinary Delights — Pub Cuisine Instead of Event Catering

Instead of food truck variety, the Berzbuir festival tent offers what belongs to the Wiesn: meatloaf with mustard, Wiener sausages, fresh pretzels, pork knuckle off the bone. In the afternoon, there's a coffee and cake buffet, organised by the ladies' committee of the rifle association. And of course, Hofbräu München — served by the litre, on tap. No cocktail bar, no Aperol Spritz: here, the Purity Law is practiced.

Family-Friendly and Affordable

The Berzbuir Oktoberfest explicitly sees itself as a family festival. Children are welcome all day, admission to the festival tent is free, and the atmosphere remains peaceful. Those looking for an authentic Wiesn experience without Munich prices will be well catered for on Berzbuir's village square.

Getting There and Parking

Berzbuir is located about 5 km south of Düren's city centre on the L 327. By car: A 4 exit Düren, then B 56 / L 327. Parking spaces are signposted in the village, but are limited — a shuttle service or a taxi is a better choice, especially with a litre mug at the table.

Oktoberfest Berzbuir — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Berzbuir Oktoberfest will take place on October 17 and 18, 2026, in the festival tent on the village square. Hofbräu München on tap, Bavarian pub cuisine, coffee and cake, Dirndl and Lederhosen competition on Saturday evening, and on Sunday the International Rhenish Championship in Fingerhakeln. Family-friendly atmosphere, free admission. Organised by the St. Anna Rifle Association Berzbuir 1893 e.V.

Two days of Wiesn atmosphere in the heart of the Eifel foothills: Hofbräu at the table, meatloaf and pretzels, Dirndl jury on Saturday, Fingerhakeln on Sunday. The Berzbuir Oktoberfest is one of the most authentic village Wiesns in the Rhineland and has been a fixture in the Eifel festival calendar for years.
