Over 130 years of marksmen tradition in the Düren district — August 14th to 17th, 2026
The St. Anna Schützenbruderschaft Berzbuir 1893 e.V. is the organizer of one of the most traditional marksmen festivals in the Düren district. For over 130 years, the association has shaped village life in the Berzbuir district of Düren — located in the northern Rureifel, at the transition from the lowlands to the Eifel low mountain range. The annual marksmen festival is the social highlight of the village.
In 2026, the Schützenfest will traditionally take place on the 3rd weekend in August, from Friday, August 14th to Monday, August 17th, 2026. The date is explicitly confirmed on the association's website stanna.de.
The famous Dance-Night Berzbuir kicks things off — a dance night in the festival tent that is known far beyond the region, attracting young audiences from all over Düren, Stolberg, and Aachen. DJs play charts, mainstream, and party hits until the early morning hours.
On Saturday evening, the Schützenfest officially opens with the Opening Ball in the festival tent. Live band: HSO Liveband, an established cover band with a wide repertoire from Schlager to Rock-Pop. The dance floor and standing tables tend to fill up quickly.
Berzbuir's musical trademark: the „Berzbuirer Nacht der Blasmusik“ on Sunday evening, in 2026 with the renowned brass formation Erftblech. This special variant of brass music — modernly arranged, lively, and miles away from classical marches — attracts a significantly younger audience than most brass music concerts.
The highlight of tradition is the King's Ball on Monday evening with the live band Melano. The new King and Queen will be officially crowned and celebrated with all honors. Before that, during the day, the traditional festival parade through Berzbuir with a marching band and festival floats will take place.
The venue is the large festival tent on the village square of Berzbuir. Around it, a small funfair with carousels, shooting galleries, and snack stands. The marksmen themselves describe their festival as „cheeky, cheerful, free, and yet down-to-earth“ — a mixture of Rhenish joie de vivre and tradition.
Berzbuir belongs to the city of Düren (Düren district), located in the southern part of the city, at the entrance to the Rurtal and the Eifel. Düren, with around 92,000 inhabitants, is one of the largest medium-sized centers in Westphalia-Central Palatinate. Berzbuir has preserved its rural identity — and with the Schützenfest, a main pillar of this identity.
