Evening charity run through Nürtingen's city centre with live music gathering
The Nürtingen City Run combines three components into a late summer highlight: Firstly, a city run through Nürtingen's old town, attended by amateur runners and ambitious athletes from the Esslingen district. Secondly, an award ceremony on Schillerplatz with a ceremonial speech by the mayor and press attendance. Thirdly — and usually with the largest audience — the concluding gathering with live music, Swabian catering, and socialising until late in the evening.
The City Run is designed as a charity event. The proceeds from entry fees and catering go to social and charitable projects as well as voluntary initiatives from the Nürtingen citizenry. The City of Nürtingen, via the Bürgertreff (Civic Centre), coordinates fund allocation in agreement with local clubs — a kind of civic-city solidarity fund, fuelled by the commitment and enthusiasm of the City Run audience.
In 2026, the band Biko & The Damaged Labour Horns will provide the musical entertainment with cover versions from rock, blues, and soul. The gathering runs from 7:30 PM to 10 PM — right after the award ceremony — and offers an open festival atmosphere on Schillerplatz with beer stands, food stalls, and relaxed Swabian "Schwatz" (chat) among athletes, families, and city strollers. Catering this year is handled by the Freundeskreis TG Nürtingen Handball e.V. — clubs take turns each year.
Nürtingen, with around 41,000 inhabitants, is one of the larger towns in the Esslingen district (state of Baden-Württemberg). The town lies on the Neckar river between Stuttgart and Reutlingen, in the foothills of the Swabian Jura. The City Run is part of a variety of civic events jointly supported by Nürtingen Engagiert e.V. and the city administration — an example of vibrant club life and solidarity within the city.
On Friday evening, September 18, 2026, the Nürtingen Civic Centre calls for the annual City Run. The run leads through Nürtingen's city centre with start and finish on the central Schillerplatz. Following the sporting phase, the award ceremony with the mayor takes place, followed by the open gathering with live music, food stalls, and beer offerings.
Catering is handled by different clubs each year — in 2026, the Freundeskreis TG Nürtingen Handball e.V. is responsible for the food. As always, proceeds go to charitable and voluntary projects from the Nürtingen citizenry.
