Germany's largest inner-city flea market in Nuremberg's Old Town
The Trempelmarkt has been an integral part of Nuremberg's city life since 1971, boasting over 50 years of history. Twice a year – in spring and autumn – the historic old town of the Franconian metropolis in Bavaria becomes Germany's largest inner-city flea market stage. "Trempeln" in Franconian means something like browsing, haggling, and rummaging – which is precisely what makes this major event so appealing.
During the Spring Trempelmarkt, around 600 stalls stretch across the most beautiful squares and alleys of the Old Town: from Hauptmarkt under the Frauenkirche, over the Museumsbrücke, Karolinenstraße, Königstraße, and Kaiserstraße down to Lorenzer Platz. The historic backdrop with the castle, churches, and patrician houses makes the stroll a special experience – flea market and city walk merge.
The offerings are as diverse as the city itself: records, porcelain, jewelry, books, tools, antiques, and everyday items. Both professional antique dealers and private sellers offer their goods. "The Trempelmarkt offers a special variety – from rare collector's items to everyday objects," says the market management. The spectacle attracts up to 200,000 visitors.
In designated children's flea market zones at Fünferplatz, Schmuckhof, and St. Sebald Church, children between 7 and 15 years old are allowed to sell themselves – a tradition that connects generations and introduces young traders to the market.
When the lights come on Friday evening and the hustle and bustle continues until midnight, a unique atmosphere arises between market cries, live music from local establishments, and the aroma of Franconian bratwurst. The Trempelmarkt is much more than a flea market – it is a Volksfest (a type of folk festival) for bargain hunters in the heart of Nuremberg's Old Town.
For the Spring Trempelmarkt 2026, around 600 stalls will transform the areas from Hauptmarkt via Kaiser-, Karolinen-, and Königstraße to Lorenzkirche into a center of private and commercial trade. The Königstraße section, successfully introduced in 2025, will be retained.
New for the spring market: an additional children's flea market zone on the west side of the town hall, level with the Bratwursthäusle and St. Sebald Church, complementing the existing zones at Fünferplatz and Schmuckhof. Advance ticket sales for vendors began on March 2, 2026 – the market is sold out.
Admission is free. Stall spaces for sellers are exclusively available through advance online booking from the Nuremberg Market Office – the 2026 spring edition is sold out. The next opportunity is the Autumn Trempelmarkt on September 12–13, 2026.
Due to extensive road closures, traveling by public transport is strongly recommended. The subway stations Lorenzkirche and Hauptmarkt are located in the middle of the market area; the main train station is within walking distance.
Friday from 4 PM to midnight, Saturday all day from 7 AM to 8 PM.
Admission is free. Stall spaces for sellers are allocated exclusively through advance online booking – the spring edition is regularly sold out.
