About Nordischer Klang
Nordischer Klang — edition 2026
For its 35th anniversary, Nordischer Klang brings together Nordic cultures in Greifswald for ten days from May 8 to 17, 2026. In 2026, the Faroe Islands are the patron country and Denmark the partner country — a constellation reflecting the Faroese-Danish presidency of the Nordic Council. Voices from Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Greenland will also be heard at the microphone, on screen, and on stage.
Around 40 events are spread over ten days. The opening concert on May 8 features Danish-German singer Gitte Hænning, presenting rarely performed repertoire bridging jazz, pop, and Schlager. The closing on May 16 features Norwegian band GiddyGang (R&B/Soul/Jazz/Hip-Hop) and Icelandic group Inspector Spacetime.
Tickets are available via the festival website and MV-Ticket. Those who want to enjoy the whole festival can purchase the discounted Klangkarte. Many events are free of charge.

About the Festival
Nordischer Klang is one of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's most significant cultural festivals and the largest festival of Nordic cultures outside Northern Europe. Since 1991, the festival has brought the full diversity of Nordic cultures to Greifswald every May: music in all its forms, literature, film, theatre, visual arts, science, and culinary arts.
Concept
Over ten days, around 40 events take place at various venues in the Hanseatic city — from the university auditorium to the Vorpommern Theatre, STRAZE, cafés, churches, and public spaces. A patron country and a partner country change annually; corresponding artists are particularly in focus, complemented by contributions from other Nordic countries and Estonia.
Awards
In 2024, the festival received the Kulturförderpreis (Cultural Promotion Award) — an acknowledgement of its long-standing, voluntary bridge-building work between Northern Germany and Northern Europe.
Klangkarte and Ticketing
Those wishing to attend multiple events can purchase a Klangkarte (Sound Card) — a festival pass at reduced rates. Numerous events are accessible free of charge anyway. Individual tickets are available via the festival website and MV-Ticket.
Local Context
Greifswald is located on the Greifswalder Bodden on the Baltic Sea — its geographical proximity to Scandinavia and Estonia has shaped the city historically (Hanseatic League, Swedish rule in the 17th–18th centuries) as well as academically (Chair for Fennistik and Scandinavian Studies). Nordischer Klang makes this connection tangible anew each year.
