About Season Opening
Season Opening — edition 2026
On Sunday, September 13, 2026, Theater Vorpommern in Greifswald opens the new 2026/27 season with its Open Day. From 3 PM, workshops, costume, tailoring, and normally closed-off areas will open; ensemble members and staff will be available for discussions.
The highlight is an opening show where the music theatre, drama, ballet, and concert departments present initial excerpts from the upcoming premieres. Announced for the season's first two premieres are Schiller's 'Die Räuber' and Bizet's opera 'Carmen'. A dance casting for the operetta 'Der Graf von Luxemburg' and a large audience choir — rehearsing the Toreador Chorus from 'Carmen' — round off the day.

Season Kick-off for a Three-Part Stage
Theater Vorpommern is one of Northern Germany's few three-part stages with three permanent venues — Greifswald, Stralsund, and Putbus on Rügen — and its own Philharmonic Orchestra. To open each new season, the Greifswald venue invites the public for an Open Day: a low-threshold format that introduces the theatre's work for the upcoming season.
Program: Meet, Peek, Sing Along
The day starts in the afternoon (usually from 3 PM) and fills the entire building with life. Ensemble members, directors, and workshop staff are available for discussions. Areas normally inaccessible — the costume, tailoring, carpentry, and rehearsal stages — are open. The highlight is an opening show where each department (music theatre, drama, ballet, concert) presents excerpts from the upcoming premieres.
Interactive Formats
Characteristic are the interactive offerings: a dance casting for the upcoming operetta or musical production and a large audience choir that, for example, rehearses the famous Toreador Chorus from Bizet's 'Carmen' and performs at the end of the show.
Premieres of the 2026/27 Season
In Greifswald, the first two premieres of the 2026/27 season are imminent: Schiller's 'The Robbers' and Bizet's opera 'Carmen'. Both productions will be presented during the Open Day with initial rehearsal excerpts and workshop discussions.
Local Context
Greifswald is part of the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Together with the Stralsund Theatre and the Putbus venue, Theater Vorpommern forms a three-part stage that holds central cultural significance for the region, far beyond the city limits.
