Days of open wine cellars and winemakers' courtyards at the end of the grape harvest in the Riesling City of Nierstein
The Niersteiner Imbs is the successor event to the traditional Days of Open Winemakers' Courtyards and is establishing itself as an important date in the annual calendar of the Riesling City of Nierstein. On the third weekend in October, traditionally at the end of the grape harvest, numerous winemakers open their cellars, courtyards, and wine shops to the public.
Nierstein is one of the world-famous wine-growing communities in Rheinhessen and Germany. The vineyards on the Roten Hang (Red Slope) with their characteristic reddish marl slate weathering soil produce Rieslings of international renown. Sites like Niersteiner Pettenthal, Hipping, and Ölberg are among the great names in German viticulture.
During the Niersteiner Imbs, guests wander at their own pace through the historic town center and the winemakers' courtyards. At each stop, the winemakers personally welcome visitors, pour wine, explain the vineyard sites and vintages, and often offer a look into the winery. Some courtyards offer live music, others focus on intimate wine tastings, and many serve Hessian specialties or regional cheeses.
The focus of the tasting is the new vintage, fresh from the cellar, complemented by mature single-vineyard wines and reserve wines from previous years. In addition, there is the late-summer Hessian specialty Federweißer (new wine), which marks the transition from grape must to young wine at this time.
The Niersteiner Imbs is an authentic event for wine lovers, focusing on direct contact between winemakers and guests. In the atmosphere of the historic wine town on the Rhine, the wine culture of Rheinhessen is celebrated here in its most original form.
The 2026 edition of the Niersteiner Imbs confirms the concept of the successor event to the Days of Open Winemakers' Courtyards. The focus is on Rieslings from the Roten Hang, Federweißer, and personal encounters with the winemakers. Several wineries are participating; the exact list will be published by the Nierstein Tourist Association in the summer of 2026.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring and summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.

Admission to the courtyards is generally free. Wines, Federweißer, and food are paid for on-site at the individual courtyards. Some winemakers offer wine tasting sets or glasses.
For those arriving by car, staying in one of the guesthouses or hotels in Nierstein or the surrounding area is recommended. Several winemakers offer holiday apartments directly on their premises.
