About Schnabelwaider Kerwa

The Schnabelwaider Kerwa is the traditional Franconian Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the market town Schnabelwaid in the district of Bayreuth, Upper Franconia. On the second weekend of November, the Kerwabum and -madla (young men and women responsible for the festival) transform the sports hall and gymnasium in Schnabelwaid into a festival venue with living traditions: from the opening on Thursday, through children's disco, Kerwa parties with DJs and live music, to the Kerwa church service, the traditional parade, and the final "Kerwa-Eingraben" (Kerwa burial) on Monday. Franconian specialties such as Kesselfleisch (boiled pork) and Siedwürste (boiled sausages) are an integral part. The Kerwa is a lively village festival and a meeting point for the entire region.
