Advent Atmosphere in Tuttlingen's District
Nendingen is one of Tuttlingen's eight districts - the largest town in the Tuttlingen district on the western edge of the Swabian Jura. The historic Danube village is located about 4 km north of Tuttlingen's city center and, with just over 2,500 inhabitants, has retained its own identity. Every year on the first Advent weekend, the Nendingen associations organize their own Christmas market around the Nendingen town hall. In 2026, the market will take place on Saturday, November 28th, and Sunday, November 29th.
Stands by Nendingen Associations
The main participants are the local associations: Men's Choir (MGV) Nendingen, Nendingen Fire Brigade, Sports Club, Liederkranz (singing society), Women's Association, Church Choir. Each association runs its own stand with its own culinary or Christmas offerings. Typical setup: The MGV serves mulled wine, the fire brigade grills bratwurst, the women's association bakes cakes, the sports club sells crêpes and children's punch, the Liederkranz offers Advent candles and fir branches, and the church choir presents homemade Christmas cookies.
Advent Music by the Associations
On a small stage in front of the Nendingen town hall, the MGV, the church choir, a brass quartet from the Tuttlingen town band, and children's groups from the Nendingen primary schools perform alternately over the weekend. The program is manageable - three to four performances per day - and consists of classic Advent songs, a few contemporary pieces, and one or two Christmas compositions from the region.
Small Market, Big Atmosphere
Unlike the large Swabian Advent markets, Nendingen is small and familiar. Around 15 to 20 stands, a few wooden huts, fairy lights in the trees, a Christmas tree with ornaments in front of the town hall. The atmosphere is familial: neighbors meet neighbors, grandparents go for a mug of mulled wine with their grandchildren, young families gather for bratwurst and children's punch. For many Nendingen residents, their own market is an important kickoff event for the Advent season - before visiting the larger Tuttlingen Christmas markets.
Locally Rooted
The Nendingen Christmas Market is a classic association market: proceeds flow entirely back into the associations' activities, often for projects for children and young people or into the association's fund. External sponsorship is minimal - the associations do everything themselves, from setup to catering to dismantling. What characterizes the market is the direct connection between organizers and visitors: if you come for mulled wine, you personally know the person behind the counter. This familiarity is the hallmark of small Swabian district Advent markets.
