Hamburg's Most Unusual Cultural Night

The Night of the Churches is one of Hamburg's most unusual cultural events. Over 100 churches of various denominations – Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, Free Churches – open their doors once a year for a joint night. Over 200 events are spread across the entire Hamburg city area.

Concerts, Readings, Tours, Spirituality

The program ranges from organ concerts to gospel, jazz, and classical music, as well as readings, discussion panels, tower and crypt tours, and meditative formats. Each participating congregation sets its own focus, from serious liturgy to cabaret contributions.

From the Michel to the Schanze

Venues include the major Hamburg main churches – St. Michaelis (Michel), St. Petri, St. Jacobi, St. Katharinen, St. Nikolai – as well as numerous district and neighborhood churches in Eimsbüttel, Altona, Wandsbek, Bergedorf, and Harburg. Free admission.

23rd Edition 2026

The organizer is the Working Group of Christian Churches Hamburg (ACK). The Night of the Churches has been a fixture of Hamburg's cultural calendar since 2003 and is a unique example of ecumenical cooperation at the city level. 2026 marks the 23rd edition.
