About Musical Summer Lienzingen

In the late Gothic Frauenkirche in Mühlacker's Lienzingen district, located in the heart of the Kraichgau-Stromberg Nature Park, the Musical Summer takes place from June to September – a series of six sophisticatedly programmed Sunday matinees. International ensembles and young talents present chamber music from the Baroque to the 20th century, always at 11 a.m., always in one of the acoustically most appealing small church spaces in Baden-Württemberg. A concert series that has long been appreciated in connoisseur circles beyond the Enzkreis.

A Summer Full of Chamber Music in the Enzkreis

Mühlacker lies between Stuttgart and Pforzheim, in the far north of Baden-Württemberg. The Lienzingen district, with its carefully restored half-timbered houses and the famous Frauenkirche from the late 15th century, forms the backdrop for one of the highest-quality classical concert series in the Enzkreis. The Musical Summer is organized by the association Mühlacker Klassik e.V. and sees itself as a chamber music summer festival with a consistently well-thought-out dramaturgy.

The Frauenkirche Lienzingen

The late Gothic Frauenkirche, completed around 1488, is considered one of the most beautiful village churches in Southern Germany. Its clear spatial design, slender wall pillars, and acoustic that is neither too dry nor too reverberant make it the ideal venue for string quartets, small orchestras, and solo programs. Seating is limited – those who want a seat should book in advance.

Program Philosophy

Six concerts between early June and the end of September, all on Sundays at 11 a.m., all in the Frauenkirche – the format has been stable for years, and that is precisely the strength of the series. The programmatic range extends from the Baroque (Bach, Rameau, Purcell) through Viennese Classicism (Haydn, Mozart) to Bartók, Ravel, Messiaen, and Stravinsky. Always included is a concert featuring young talents – the series also sees itself as a platform for emerging musicians.

Atmosphere and Region

Lienzingen is located in the heart of the Stromberg-Heuchelberg Nature Park. Those who combine their concert visit with a hike in the vineyards or a trip to the neighboring monastery town of Maulbronn (UNESCO World Heritage site) can experience the full cultural spectrum of the region in one day. After the concerts, the local inns are well attended – a Sunday lunch with Franconian-Swabian cuisine perfectly rounds off the matinee.

Musical Summer Lienzingen — edition 2026

The 2026 Musical Summer comprises six concerts between early June and the end of September, each on Sundays at 11 a.m. in the Frauenkirche Lienzingen. The program features the SWD Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim, Young Talents, the South German Chamber Symphony Bietigheim, the Lotus Quartet, Trio Vivente plus, and the Basel ensemble Il Concerto Intempestivo.

The 2026 edition spans a wide range: from Ukrainian folk songs to Haydn, Mozart, and Bartók, to Messiaen and a baroque interpretation of Stravinsky's 'The Rite of Spring'. The traditional concert with young talents on June 21 remains, once again showcasing a cross-section of music academies in Southern Germany.
