Bach Cello Suites in a Palace of the Haßberge
Friesenhausen Palace is located in the market town of Hofheim in Lower Franconia, district of Friesenhausen, at the transition from Grabfeld to the Haßberge. As part of the concert series »Music in Franconian Palaces«, cellist Bernhard Hentrich will perform a solo program of the six suites for solo cello BWV 1007–1012 by Johann Sebastian Bach there on Saturday, June 13, 2026, starting at 5 p.m. The organizer is the association Musik in fränkischen Schlössern e.V., which has been hosting the series in Lower Franconian noble residences for years.
The 2026 season of Musik in fränkischen Schlössern comprises four concerts in Lower Franconian palaces and castles around the Haßberge: Friesenhausen Palace (June 13 with Bernhard Hentrich, Bach Cello Suites), Eyrichshof Palace (September 6 with the ensemble Bolero Berlin), Burgpreppach Palace (October 10 with the Fürstlich Löwensteinische HofMusic), and a fourth concert with Cappella Musica Dresden, the date of which is yet to be determined. The series combines top-class chamber music with the architectural charm of privately managed Franconian palaces.
Bernhard Hentrich is one of the most distinguished cellists in the field of historical performance practice in German-speaking countries. His Bach solo programs have been part of the repertoire of concert series for historically informed music for years. The suites for solo cello are considered cornerstones of cello literature — the intimate hall of Friesenhausen Palace offers the ideal resonance for them.
Friesenhausen is a district of the market town of Hofheim in Lower Franconia in the Haßberge district, state of Bavaria. The historic palace is privately owned and is only opened for selected cultural events. Concertgoers can experience the estate with its park and halls in a region that belongs to the Haßberge Nature Park — a less frequented, but scenically attractive low mountain range landscape of Lower Franconia.
The opening evening of the 2026 season of »Music in Franconian Palaces« begins on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 5 p.m. at Friesenhausen Palace. Bernhard Hentrich will present a program of the six suites for solo cello BWV 1007–1012 by Johann Sebastian Bach — works that are part of the canon of Western chamber music and find particular resonance in the historic hall of the palace.
The concert series aims to bridge high-quality chamber music of historical performance practice with the architectural heritage of Lower Franconian noble residences. The concert at Friesenhausen Palace is one of four dates in the 2026 season — with further stops at Eyrichshof Palace, Burgpreppach Palace, and with Cappella Musica Dresden.
