Schönstein Castle Christmas Market

The Schönstein Christmas Market is one of the most beautiful Advent events in the Naturregion Sieg. The venue is the courtyard of Schönstein Castle, located high above the Siegtal valley in the Schönstein district of Wissen.

Schönstein Castle as a Backdrop

Schönstein Castle is a castle and palace complex over 700 years old, today owned by the Hatzfeldt-Wildenburg family. The historic castle courtyard forms a unique backdrop: walls, towers, and half-timbering create an atmosphere that cannot be compared to modern Christmas markets in urban pedestrian zones.

Over 30 Stalls – Crafts and Delicacies

Over 30 stalls are represented at the market. Artisans offer their work: ceramics, textiles, wood, glass, jewelry, candles, carvings. Regional producers present specialties such as sausages, cheese, honey, jams, and liqueurs. Mulled wine, punch, bratwurst, and Christmas baked goods complement the gastronomic offerings.

Leading Role of the Schützenbruderschaft

The organizer is the St. Sebastianus Schützenbruderschaft 1402 vom Heister zu Schönstein – an association whose roots reach deep into the Middle Ages. The brotherhood brings its many years of experience in event management and ensures a smooth process through volunteer efforts. Proceeds go to the association's activities and social projects in the region.

Musical Accompaniment

Choirs, brass ensembles, and solo musicians perform at the market on both days, underscoring the festive atmosphere. In conjunction with the historic backdrop and the Advent lighting, an ambiance is created that attracts many visitors year after year.
