57th edition of the spring Volksfest on the Isar with Festzelt Schneider and Django Asül
Moosburg an der Isar in the Freising district — at the transition between the Munich gravel plain and the Hallertau region — has been celebrating its Spring Festival since 1969. The 57th edition in 2026 runs from Thursday, April 30th, to Tuesday, May 5th. The traditional venue: the Viehmarktplatz near the old town and not far from the Isar River.
For decades, Festzelt Schneider has been the centerpiece of the Moosburg Spring Festival. Under the motto "Kim geh weida, nei zum Schneider!" — in High German: "Come on, go on, into Schneider's!" — the tent offers live bands, brass combos, Bavarian specialties (roast chicken, pork roast, dumplings), and freshly tapped festival beer. Regular and weekend visitors appreciate the family atmosphere and traditional character — not a mega-Wiesn format, but a down-to-earth traditional festival from Central Bavaria.
The traditional opening is marked by a parade through Moosburg's old town. Brass bands, traditional costume groups, marksmen, and sports clubs, along with the festival host family, march from the town center to the festival grounds. This is followed by the ceremonial beer tapping, an opening ceremony, and the start of the festival.
A highlight of the 2026 edition: Django Asül, one of Germany's sharpest-tongued Lower Bavarian political satirists, known for his appearances at the Nockherberg "Starkbierprobe" (strong beer tasting), will perform at Festzelt Schneider. Asül combines Lower Bavarian humor with political bite and has been a hallmark of Bavarian political cabaret for years. The exact performance date within the festival period will be announced by the festival organizer.
Surrounding the tent are the classic amusement park attractions: bumper cars, swing rides, a Ferris wheel, a carousel, shooting galleries, lottery stalls, candied almonds, gingerbread hearts. On weekdays, there are often reduced prices for families — the festival's program is explicitly geared towards younger audiences and families.
Moosburg is located about 20 minutes from Landshut — either by car or by bike along the Isar cycle path — and about 40 minutes from Munich via the A92 motorway. The Kastulusmünster, an important Romanesque church from the 12th century, characterizes the old town's appearance. The Spring Festival complements this historical-romantic identity with a hearty Bavarian folk festival tradition.
The 2026 edition continues the decades-long tradition: a Volksfest with Festzelt Schneider, an opening parade, Bavarian festival beer service, and a political-cabaret highlight. The detailed daily program — performance dates of live bands, date of Django Asül's appearance, any special promotions like family days — will be published closer to the date by the festival organizer and the city of Moosburg on meinmoosburg.de.
Moosburg is located on the A92 motorway (Munich–Deggendorf, Moosburg exit) and the Munich–Landshut–Regensburg railway line. It's about a 15-minute walk from Moosburg station to the Viehmarktplatz. Park & Ride is recommended on the main weekend. By bike: Isar cycle path from Landshut.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. A liter of festival beer (Maß) and food are at usual Volksfest prices. There may be a separate ticket surcharge for the Django Asül performance — details from the festival organizer.
Daily from 11:00 AM, Sundays from 9:30 AM. Festival operations until 11:00 PM / midnight depending on the day of the week.
