Ancient Worlds in the Danube Town in the Pfaffenhofen District
The Kulturnacht Vohburg is an annual joint event by the municipal library and the municipal museum of the town of Vohburg on the Danube (Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm district, Bavaria). In 2026, the Kulturnacht will be under the annual theme »The Romans are coming!« — a programmatic allusion to the region's intensive Roman past and to the museum's special exhibition, which runs concurrently from September 2, 2026.
The Kulturnacht bundles Vohburg's cultural resources into a single evening event. The municipal library and the municipal museum will open their doors simultaneously from 7 p.m.; visitors can move between the two venues. Classic components include readings from Roman-influenced literature, guided tours of the special exhibition, musical contributions, and culinary offerings with an ancient connection. The detailed program will be published on the town's website in late summer 2026.
Accompanying the Kulturnacht, the Vohburg Municipal Museum will present the special exhibition »Große, kleine Römerwelt!« from September 2, 2026, to February 2027. The exhibition is dedicated to daily life on the Roman Limes and in the Danube castles — Vohburg is located in close proximity to the former Roman Danube border. Finds from the region, models, and interactive stations designed for educational purposes are intended to appeal to a broad audience, including families.
Vohburg on the Danube has around 8,000 inhabitants and is located in the Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm district, between Ingolstadt and Regensburg. The town has been settled since Roman times, has a medieval castle ensemble, and is considered one of the historically richest Danube towns between Lower and Upper Bavaria. Alongside the Fuchsburgfest, the Kulturnacht is one of the annual highlights of the town's cultural calendar.
The Kulturnacht Vohburg 2026 combines two municipal cultural institutions — the municipal library and the municipal museum — for a joint evening dedicated to Roman antiquity. Starting at 7 p.m., both venues will open their doors; visitors can freely switch between program points. The annual theme »The Romans are coming!« refers to Vohburg's proximity to the former Roman Danube border and to the special exhibition »Große, kleine Römerwelt!«, which will be on display at the museum from September 2, 2026, and runs until February 2027.
Planned are readings from Roman-influenced literature (Cicero, Pliny, ancient travelogues), themed guided tours of the special exhibition, musical contributions, and culinary offerings with an ancient connection. The complete detailed program will be communicated in late summer 2026 by the town of Vohburg on the Danube.
